Habit Switch is a habit-replacement app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, made by Vinh Nguyen ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your information.
The short version: we run no servers and we never receive your habit data. Everything you log stays on your devices and in your own private iCloud. The free version does show ads, which are served by Google AdMob — the one part of the app where a third party is involved, and the section below explains exactly what that means.
We collect nothing. We have no account system, no servers, and no analytics of our own. Nothing you log is ever sent to us.
Your habit data never leaves your devices. Your switches, your slips, your swaps, and everything you type to the coach stay on your iPhone/iPad, sync only to your own private iCloud, and are never shared with anyone — including our advertising partner.
The free version shows ads, served by Google AdMob. AdMob collects device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure those ads, and may use them for tracking if you allow it. It never receives anything about your habits.
You control ad tracking. iOS asks your permission before any tracking; if you decline, you still get ads, just non-personalized ones, and the app works identically.
Buying Pro removes ads entirely, and with them the third-party data collection described here.
The AI coach runs entirely on your device. Nothing you type to it ever leaves your iPhone.
The app keeps the following in its private storage on your iPhone or iPad (and, if you use one, your Apple Watch):
Your switches — the habit pairs you set up (the habit you're leaving, its replacement, and any custom text you write).
Logged moments — when you swapped, slipped, or did a bonus rep, and any trigger tag you chose (stress, boredom, and so on).
Settings — haptics, sound, reminders, theme, and similar preferences.
We understand this is sensitive by nature — what you are trying to quit is nobody's business but yours. That is exactly why the app is built with no account, no server, and no analytics: there is no copy of this data anywhere we could access, and it is never given to advertisers.
A small snapshot of your switches (names, icons, and current stats) is shared with the app's own widgets, Control Center control, and watch-face complications through Apple's App Group mechanism — still entirely on your devices. You can delete individual logged moments in the app, erase everything with Settings → Erase everything, or remove all app data by deleting the app.
Habit Switch is free and unlimited, and ads are what pay for it. Ads are served by Google AdMob. Google is an independent controller of the data it collects through those ads; its handling is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
What Google may collect. To serve, cap, and measure ads, and to detect fraud, the AdMob SDK may collect device and advertising identifiers (such as Apple's Advertising Identifier), advertising interaction data (ads shown, tapped), coarse device and app information, and your IP address. Where you have allowed tracking, these may be used to personalize ads and may be linked to you across other apps and websites.
What Google never gets. AdMob receives nothing about what you log. Your habit pairs, your urges, your slips, your swaps, your trigger tags, your notes to the coach — none of it is passed to Google or to any advertiser, in any form. The ads are not targeted using anything you record in this app.
Your choices.
Tracking. Before any tracking occurs, iOS shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads become non-personalized and no tracking identifier is used. Nothing in the app is withheld either way. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Consent (EEA/UK/Switzerland). Where required, a Google-certified consent message appears before any ad loads, and you can reopen your choices at any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices inside the app.
Remove ads. Buying Habit Switch Pro turns off all advertising, and the AdMob SDK stops requesting ads.
Rewarded video. You may voluntarily watch a rewarded video to unlock Pro features for 24 hours. It is always optional and never required to use the app; watching one does not remove ads.
Apple's attribution. The app includes Apple's SKAdNetwork identifiers, a privacy-preserving system that lets advertisers measure campaign performance without identifying you.
Ads are kept out of the moment that matters. There is no ad of any kind during the urge ride, the coach conversation, the celebration or compassion screens, or the slip-recovery screen, and there are no full-screen interstitials anywhere in the app.
Your switches and logged moments sync to your own private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit), so a new iPhone keeps your streaks. This data is stored in your iCloud account, protected by Apple's iCloud security; we have no ability to read it — it never passes through, and is never stored on, any system of ours. If you are signed out of iCloud, the app simply runs locally. You can stop iCloud syncing for the app in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Saved to iCloud, and deleting the app's data removes it from your iCloud as well.
The coach chat runs on Apple's on-device foundation models (Apple Intelligence), directly on your iPhone. Your messages, your habits, and the coach's replies are processed entirely on the device — they are never sent to us, to Apple's servers by the app, or to any third party, and the app keeps no transcript after you close the conversation. On devices where Apple Intelligence isn't available, the coach shows built-in encouragements instead; nothing changes about privacy either way.
If you pair an Apple Watch, your switches and moments logged on the wrist sync between your iPhone and Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity — a direct, device-to-device Apple mechanism. This data does not pass through any server of ours. The Watch app and its complications contain no advertising code.
All reminders (the evening check-in, the weekly review nudge, and danger-window reminders) are local notifications, scheduled and delivered on your device. No notification service of ours is involved, because we don't have one.
Habit Switch Pro is a single one-time purchase, processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. There is no subscription and nothing renews. We never see your payment details. The app only learns, on your device, whether Pro is active so it can unlock features. Purchases can be restored in the app, and refunds are handled by Apple.
The "I feel the urge" shortcut, the widgets, the Control Center control, and the Lock Screen Live Activity all run on your device using Apple's frameworks. No request or usage information is sent to us, and none of these surfaces contains advertising.
If you have opted in to share analytics with app developers (an iOS-level setting), Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized statistics such as download counts or crash reports. These contain no habit data and nothing that identifies you.
Habit Switch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the free version shows third-party advertising, we ask that children under 13 not use the app without a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian who believes a child has used the app and wishes to raise a concern can contact us at the address below.
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on request — you already hold all of it, and Settings → Erase everything removes it. For data collected by Google through advertising, please refer to Google's privacy policy linked above and to your device's tracking and ad settings.
If the app's behavior ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change ships.
