GYA sir is one of the best teachers I got to learn from and work with at the Doon School. His love for physics was evident through his teaching, and his enthusiasm was infectious. Years after studying ICSE and ISC physics with him, I clearly remember his emphasis on ensuring that we had a thorough intuition for what we studied. From live demonstrations of concepts like conservation of energy to 'from first principles' derivations of otherwise didactic formulae, GYA went above and beyond what our curriculum strictly required of us. He held us to a high standard, and regularly challenged us to deeply understand physics. In this, he gave us tools to become better learners in school, college, and beyond.
GYA worked closely with me and other students on submissions to the Breakthrough Junior Challenge—an international science explainer video competition. Over several weeks, he helped me write, record, and edit my first such video. He supported me through the personal and technical challenges I encountered in the process, and together we were able to submit an explainer that I was proud of.
Although I unfortunately never got to work on a research project with him, I remember the enthusiasm with which he would describe his students' projects. There too, he held his students to a high standard, encouraging them to target student research journals rather than just what would be good enough for the IB curriculum.
I remember being inspired by his interest in self-improvement; outside of classes, he would keep himself busy with online courses about teaching, programming, and more, and share these hobbies with us.
Both in his teaching and in his voluntary extracurricular engagements, GYA sir stood out in his overwhelming enthusiasm for teaching and in that he went the extra mile to ensure that all his students were on the same page. His humility and drive for self-improvement and learning fed into my respect for him as a mentor, and shaped who I am as a student and researcher today. I am grateful for having been one of GYA's students.
GYA sir is somebody who has had an invaluable role in supporting my physics journey. I first got interested in physics in Grade 7 after partaking in a science competition which sir had introduced me to. Since then, he has had an invaluable role in mentoring me through a number of physics competitions, most notably IYPT (The International Young Physicists’ Tournament), where his help was vital in helping me reach the final stage and in representing India in the competition.
GYA sir is not just somebody who teaches for the sake of teaching. His ability to take any physics concept and not just simplify it but explain it in an intuitive manner is what makes him one of the best teachers whom I’ve ever met.
As a teacher, he is somebody who cares less about your grades and more about whether or not you have actually learnt and understood the material. His philosophy has always been that anybody can mug up equations and get a good grade, but that only interacting with the material and asking questions is something that will enable you to actually understand the physics behind a phenomenon.
I will forever be thankful to sir for all his efforts in mentoring me over the years, and I was extremely fortunate to be his student.
I am grateful to have studied under GYA, an exceptional physics teacher whose passion for the subject and for teaching has left a lasting impact on me. He focuses on practicality in learning—emphasizing experiments and demonstrations to help students deeply understand concepts. Many of the physics fundamentals I grasp today came from the hands-on experiments I conducted under his guidance.
I had the privilege of working with him on my Google Science Fair project, where I qualified among the top 100 in India. From the very beginning, he motivated me to take on the challenge, helped me identify a meaningful research question, and guided me through ideation, planning, and execution. With his mentorship, I was also able to write a research paper based on the project, which we later presented at a national conference. His support was unwavering at every stage of this journey.
What sets him apart is his dedication, hard work, and profound knowledge of physics. He doesn’t just teach the subject—he instills a curiosity and love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom. His teaching methods remain with me to this day, and his encouragement continues to inspire me to work harder and stay committed in my current studies.
GYA is truly a remarkable teacher—one whose blend of deep subject expertise and genuine care for his students makes him an extraordinary mentor and role model.
I had the privilege of being taught and mentored by Mr. Gyaneshwaran during high school, and I can confidently say he transformed my relationship with Physics. Before joining his class, I was struggling with the subject and consistently scoring poorly. Under his guidance, not only did I start understanding Physics, but I went on to compete for the top scorer spot in my class.
His teaching style was unlike any other — engaging, approachable, and full of curiosity that made you want to learn rather than feel intimidated. He had a way of making complex concepts feel simple and even fun, whether we were working through problems or laughing over some of Physics’ more… creatively named objects.
Beyond just academics, he supported me tirelessly through my IB Internal Assessment in Physics, offering insights, feedback, and encouragement at every step. His mentorship extended beyond the classroom, inspiring me to think critically, stay disciplined, and enjoy the learning process.
Mr. Gyaneshwaran is not only an exceptional teacher but also a mentor who genuinely cares about his students’ growth. I will always be grateful for the role he played in shaping my confidence and love for learning. Any student would be lucky to have him as their teacher.

A typical fine evening, I, an eleventh grader, hop on a call with Mr. Gyaneshwaran to discuss puzzling physics problems. I tell things, he takes a moment before throwing a question so simple yet profound, that I am left with no answer. He doesn't chide or offer the solution directly. Instead, he iteratively guides me with another question, leading me down a path of self-discovery until the answer, initially elusive, becomes brilliantly clear. This wasn't just about solving a physics problem; it was about understanding how to think, how to question, and how to truly grasp the underlying principles.
I highly recommend Mr. Gyaneshwaran to students from practically all backgrounds who are keen to pursue physics at any level. Whether IB or an exam like the JEE, or simply wishes to deepen their understanding of the physical world, Mr. Gyaneshwaran is an exceptional guide: he cultivates genuine curiosity and critical thinking rather than letting you blindly rote and mug up the syllabus.
Mr. Gyaneshwaran can foster an environment where students can pursue research or experiment design projects. He works and thinks in ways that are profoundly unique and interesting. He doesn't just provide answers; he provokes thought, encouraging students to explore, question, and ultimately, discover solutions independently, thereby empowering students to become independent learners and thinkers, a skill invaluable in any academic or professional pursuit. His guidance transforms complex concepts into approachable challenges, making him an ideal mentor for anyone eager to delve deeper into the fascinating world of physics.
You are just bound to have a great time with him while learning. His quick wit, great work ethic and his novel ways of attempting problems and looking at things will always keep you 'hooked' with whatever you are going to learn with him. Such has always been my experience with him, for as long as I can recall.
I had the honour of being taught by Gyaneshwaran Sir during my five years at The Doon School, where I was fortunate to study physics with him in both the ICSE and IB curriculums. Looking back, I feel incredibly lucky that my journey in physics began under his guidance.
From the very start, he sparked in me a genuine curiosity for the subject. His way of connecting concepts to real-life situations made learning physics feel natural and intuitive rather than abstract. His classes were always interactive, and he had a way of making every student feel involved and excited about what we were learning.
While working on my IB Extended Essay, I had the privilege of being mentored by him on a project that explored the physics behind a simple water rocket. Through his guidance, I was able to dive deep into the science behind an everyday phenomenon, structure my research, and present my findings in a way that was both rigorous and creative. This process not only helped me achieve a high-scoring essay but also deepened my love for research and inquiry.
Sir has a rare gift: the ability to explain complex concepts in an engaging, memorable way, while at the same time encouraging students to think independently and develop their own insights. He has played a pivotal role in shaping my academic journey, and I owe a great deal of my passion for physics to his mentorship.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Gyaneshwaran Sir to any student who wants to not just study physics, but truly experience it!
Gyaneshwaran (GYA) Sir was my IBDP Physics Extended Essay supervisor and I have known him for over five years during my school life.
More than just a teacher, he is an incredibly passionate learner. During the time he supervised my extended essay, he was enthusiastic about experimentation and discovery of new concepts. Instead of encouraging shortcuts like simply looking things up online, he pushed me to identify phenomena based on concepts we had learned in class. Whenever I struggled to understand something, he would take the time to explain it in the simplest and clearest way possible.
One of the most defining aspects of GYA Sir is his comfort with uncertainty. He encourages trying new approaches, embracing the unknown and using critical thinking to navigate challenges. What stands out even more is his calm and composed attitude when faced with a problem - it reassures students like me and reinforces the belief that a solution is always within reach. And with his guidance, we always find one.
GYA sir is approachable and always goes the extra mile to create a positive and motivating learning environment. Under his guidance, I learned how to break down complex, applied physics problems into manageable parts and solve them logically - skills that have stayed with me far beyond the classroom.
GYA Sir played a pivotal role in shaping my problem-solving abilities and I’m incredibly grateful to have been taught by him. I highly recommend him to any institution or individual seeking a thoughtful and inspiring educator.
Feel free to DM me on LinkedIn if you’d like to know more about GYA Sir or have any questions about him.
Gyani sir was my Physics teacher in FIITJEE during my 9th and 10th grade. It's been ~15 years since he taught me, and two things that still stand out clearly in my memory are the enthusiasm that he possessed for teaching, and the level of preparation he put into every class he taught. The former served as very effective motivation for me to pay attention in class. The latter definitely contributed to the clarity he displayed when explaining JEE-level concepts to us -- concepts were broken down into intuitive explanations and meaningful examples helped drive those concepts home.
Across school, undergrad and grad school, Gyani sir is one of the best teachers I have had.
Gyaneshwaran sir (or GYA as we lovingly called him) has practiced curiosity in every aspect of his life. It is hard for that curiosity to not infect those in his class and encourage his students to think more deeply about physics. I studied physics in the IGCSE board under him, and was also mentored by him through several competitions as well as my IB internal assessment research papers. These were all successful endeavours in my book as I chose a physics-focused field for my career. He is a teacher of the highest order, and a kind soul like no other. I wish him the very best!
GYA sir has been my mentor over the past two years and, with honesty, I can say he is the best teacher I have ever met.
We worked together for the ST Yau high school physics tournament over the span of 6 months, where from the initial proposal to the final paper he helped me in every step of the competition. GYA is special because he does not just teach concepts, he teaches intuition. Physics becomes a part of your daily life when you learn from Mr. Gyaneshwaran simply because you start loving it so much.
Sir has helped me conduct physics research from a varierty of domains. And I completely recommend anyone looking for any type of support whether its IB or research in general to reach out to GYA!!
Gyaneshwaran (or, as we called him, GYA), is one of those teachers you always remember. His passion for Physics is second to none, and the same can be said of his desire to help all his students. I distinctly remember the many experiments we performed together and how he used them as a springboard to ignite my interest in the subject. On one occasion, we spent hours inflating balloons, trying to measure the relationship between a balloon’s diameter and the noise it makes when popped. This particular experiment wasn’t part of the coursework, but it’s something I fondly look back on. He didn’t stop at the syllabus to share his passion and inspire students.
To Whom It May Concern,
I am very happy to write this letter to recommend Mr. Gyaneshwaran Gomathinayagam, who
we all called GYA at school. He was my Physics teacher during the IBDP program, and also
my Extended Essay (EE) coordinator. I learned so much from him, both inside and outside
the classroom, and I truly appreciate everything he did for me during those two years.
One thing that always stood out about GYA was his dedication to teaching. He never taught
just to help us pass exams. Instead, he focused on making sure that every single student
understood the topic properly. He always said that real learning is more important than just
getting good grades. He would go deep into every topic, and he would not move ahead until
he felt that everyone in the class was following and understanding the concept. He was very
patient and would explain things again and again if needed.
There’s one moment I remember clearly that shows how serious he was about this. One day
in class, I made a casual comment saying I already understood the topic well enough to do
well in the exam, since I had practiced a lot using past papers. I thought it was a smart thing
to say, but GYA didn’t agree at all. He scolded me for that comment and told me that just
knowing how to answer questions wasn’t enough — we should try to understand the topic
completely, not only for the exam but for our own knowledge. That moment really changed
the way I think about learning, and it’s something I still remember today.
Apart from being a great Physics teacher, GYA also helped me a lot as my Extended Essay
coordinator. He was very involved in the whole process and paid attention to every small
detail. Whenever I gave him a draft, he would take the time to read it carefully and give me
very detailed feedback. He pointed out not only the big issues but also small things like how
I presented my data, the way I wrote certain sentences, and whether my conclusion was
strong enough. Because of his help, I was able to improve my EE a lot, and in the end, I was
really happy and surprised to receive an A grade. I honestly didn’t think I would get that high
a score, and I know it wouldn’t have been possible without GYA’s support and guidance.
GYA is the kind of teacher who truly cares about his students. He doesn’t just teach because
it’s his job — he teaches because he wants his students to really learn and grow. He puts in
a lot of effort, gives honest and helpful feedback, and always encourages students to do their
best. I feel lucky that I had him as a teacher, and I’m very grateful for everything he taught
me.
I strongly recommend Mr. Gyaneshwaran Gomathinayagam for any teaching or academic
position. I’m sure he will be a great asset wherever he goes.
Sincerely,
Namann Deepak Jain

I had the honour of being taught by Gyaneshwaran sir at Doon School and I have no doubts in saying that he is one of the best educators I have come across in school or in college. He has a unique way of teaching physics such that students are really able to grasp the concepts, internalize it and apply the learning’s to their day to day lives irrespective of how interested or not one might be in topic.
One specific anecdote comes to mind as I reflect on the time I had spent learning from GYA sir - I wasn’t able to understand some formula of wave phenomenon (can’t recall which one) and the next day, he created a visualisation experiment in an attempt to explain it to me. The amount of care and concern he displays towards his students is phenomenal.
His teachings go beyond just physics and are valuable in maths, other sciences and life in general. I have over time learnt and appreciated several lessons he taught me as he operates with the intention of truly shaping individuals to be successful in the future.
That said, I would highly recommend him for anyone who would be interested in studying, researching on engaging with physics in any way. And even if you’re not, after working with him I’m certain that you will be!
If you find Physics too difficult or boring to learn, if CBSE/ISC curricula don’t spark any curiosity in you, and you’re hungry to become naturally curious about the concepts of Physics, Gyaneshwaran sir is the right person to go to.
I learnt Class XI ISC Physics under sir, and I really enjoyed the way he teaches. Sir has a way of explaining even the most complex topics by breaking them down into simpler and more fundamental concepts that you can intuitively understand. You end up understanding how everything in physics is so interconnected. And you can be rest assured, if there is a deep complicated question you ask sir that most teachers would never even think of, he will either have the best explanation for it, or he’ll spend a few days to come back to you with the right answer.
I know friends who also conducted extensive research for their International Baccalaureate requirements under Gyaneshwaran sir and enjoyed it all the way. They all described sir’s guidance to be essential for their successful research outputs. All these folks went on to join some of the best physics/engineering courses the world has to offer.
I highly recommend approaching sir if you want Physics to be fun! Apart from his lazer sharp clarity about the subject, he will surely shower some very funny jokes in between that will make the entire experience even better. You will gain a teacher and a friend in the process :)
Please feel free to DM me on LinkedIn in case you would like to hear some more words of praise for sir before you decide to approach him for his guidance!
I had the privilege of studying Physics HL under the guidance of Gyani Sir — though to most of us, he was simply GYA. There was something distinctly unique about the way he approached the subject. Rather than relying solely on textbook explanations, he brought physics to life through hands-on exploration. Some of my most memorable lessons were spent building wild contraptions or testing out unusual ideas in class, followed by deep discussions that made the underlying concepts clear.
My first interaction with GYA was quite unique. I, along with a couple of my friends from my boarding house, had been called by GYA to assist one of the students in his experimental work and video for the Raman Awards. GYA patiently guided the student throughout the process - from deriving the equations to explaining the theory and the methodology to the manner in which the student had to present the video. Observing this process from a third person's perspective reassured all the positive feedback that I had been hearing about GYA as a teacher. I was awestruck by the depth of knowledge that he had about the subject and how making the student learn the subject and enjoy it was the utmost priority for him.
GYA became the sole reason why I enjoyed physics throughout high school. Whether it was crafting a rubber band launcher for my IA or experimenting with matchsticks for my EE, he always emphasized understanding the underlying principles. He didn’t just help me complete my projects — he made sure I truly grasped the ideas behind them. In addition to this, he helped me truly understand how to write research papers once the experimenting work had been done. I had always believed research papers in physics was equivalent to writing a literary analysis in English and more content was better. GYA helped change this narrative for me. In fact, I went on ahead to take part in competitions where papers had to be written such as Beamline, Conrad Innovators Challenge, Earth Prize, and many more.
What sets him apart is that his love for physics goes beyond the classroom walls. His dedication to IYPT is nothing short of inspiring. He invests so much time into helping students think critically, build compelling arguments, and tackle complex problems with curiosity and creativity. GYA isn’t just a great teacher — he’s a mentor, a motivator, and someone who embodies what it means to be passionate about science. I’m truly grateful to have learned from him and I strongly recommend him as a mentor and a teacher.
I had the privilege of working with Gyaneshwaran sir during my International Baccalaureate years, and although he wasn’t my official classroom teacher, he played a pivotal role in my academic journey. Despite not being assigned to our section, he went far beyond what was required—offering his time, knowledge, and mentorship to support not just me, but a large part of our entire batch.
Whether it was helping us navigate the complexities of our Physics Internal Assessments or offering detailed insights and guidance for our Extended Essays, sir approached everything with exceptional clarity, patience, and passion. He never hesitated to stay back after hours, answer late-night emails, or even review multiple drafts to ensure we were not just meeting deadlines but producing work we were proud of.
What truly sets him apart is his genuine commitment to student success. He didn’t just teach physics—he modelled intellectual curiosity, academic rigour, and generosity of spirit. I’m incredibly grateful for his guidance and I can say with confidence that my understanding of physics and research wouldn’t have been the same without him.
Any student would be lucky to have someone like him on their side.
It’s hard to put into words just how much of a difference GYA Sir has made in my son Aradhya's life. He wasn’t just a Physics mentor — he became a true guiding force in Aradhya’s high school years.
When Aradhya first began working with GYA Sir in class 7 during the COVID-19 lockdown , he was a curious student with a budding interest in science. Over time, that curiosity was transformed into a deep passion for Physics — all thanks to the way GYA Sir taught and inspired. His mentorship brought out a version of Aradhya we hadn’t seen before: more confident, more focused, and deeply engaged in learning.
One of the biggest milestones in Aradhya’s journey was being selected to represent India in the finals of the International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT) in 2022 — and he was one of the youngest to do so. That achievement simply wouldn’t have been possible without GYA Sir. From brainstorming research ideas, refining presentations, to offering steady encouragement during moments of doubt, he was there every step of the way. I still remember late-night Zoom calls and the calm assurance in his voice — that steady presence made all the difference.
As a parent, what touched me most was how much GYA Sir genuinely cared. He saw potential in Aradhya and nurtured it with patience and belief. He wasn’t just teaching Physics; he was shaping a young mind and spirit.
Aradhya has been blessed to have GYA sir as his mentor and he will carry fond memories of his school journey as he now prepares his new journey as an incoming freshman at Brown University.
We’re incredibly grateful to GYA Sir and feel lucky to have had him in Aradhya’s journey. I have no doubt that his new online mentorship venture will touch many more lives the way it did ours.

GYA Sir—as we fondly call him—is the kind of teacher who actually gets it. When I was drowning in IB Physics HL, I could memorize all the kinematic equations just fine, but I had zero intuition for what was actually happening. I felt pretty stupid admitting this to him, but when I finally did, he didn't make me feel that way.
Instead, he helped me learn VPython and Glowscript which allows one to animate physics phenomena. He'd show me cool demonstrations, patiently answer my (often silly) questions, and somehow help me go from staring at obscure Greek letters to having a mechanistic understanding of the real world.
I used to watch him work with the seniors on their research projects in his lab. GYA Sir distilled complex concepts into clear, principled explanations and he consistently went above and beyond to ensure every student could grasp the material. He maintained an impressive arsenal of resources and created detailed video recordings for us to help understand difficult concepts and prepare for exams. GYA Sir is not only an amazing teacher, but a caring human too.
GYA Sir pushed me towards pursuing physics competitions. He believed I could do it way before I did. That meant everything. He didn't just teach me physics—he taught me how to think and learn.
In challenging my intuitions, GYA Sir helped me hone mine. I wouldn't understand half the physics I know now without him.
Having Gyaneshwaran Sir as my high-school physics teacher was nothing short of transformational. He did far more than teach Physics. Today, I remained deeply indebted to him for igniting my passion for science, sharpening my logical reasoning framework, and exemplifying what a true educator can be.
His classroom was literally a laboratory of curiosity. Every concept he taught came with a probing question, and he encouraged me to analyze each problem from first principles. The habits of mind he instilled became the foundation of my research at Georgia Tech—where I earned a patent in robotics—and later in R&D at Novelis. Even when my work moved beyond physics, I relied on the investigative framework he had taught me.
Gyaneshwaran Sir mentored me through two milestone IBDP projects: a Grade-11 water-rocket Physics IA and an extended essay on the acoustics of a straw oboe—both of which received top marks in IB, thanks to his patient guidance and high standards.
In short, he is a catalyst for discovery, a guarantor of student success, and a steadfast mentor well beyond graduation. Every student who has studied under Gyaneshwaran Sir can attest to the impact he has had on their learning journey and success. Thank you Sir for everything you have done
Every so often, I’d be gripped by the illusion that I had grasped the deepest truths of physics—that this was all there was to know. But a single conversation with Gyaneshwaran Sir would unravel that illusion, leaving me humbled by the vastness of what I didn’t know.
Popularly known as GYA, he is one of the rare educators who refuses the role of a sage on a stage. Instead, he guides you toward higher understanding through Socratic dialogue—inviting you to think, to question, and to arrive. In a world where debates are too often reduced to performances of bravado and blasphemy, there exists a small and noble minority who believe that the purpose of argument is the pursuit of truth. GYA Sir stands at the heart of that tradition.
He doesn’t need my words to validate what many already know: that he is an extraordinary teacher with the rare ability to shift how people perceive science—not as a body of knowledge, but as a way of thinking.
Still, I feel profoundly grateful to have encountered him during some of the most formative years of my life.
I had the privilege of being a student of Gyaneshwaran Sir (affectionately known as GYA) at The Doon School from 8th through 12th grade. Under his guidance, I achieved an A* in IGCSE Physics, a 7 in IBDP Physics, and scored 22/24 on my Physics IA. One can easily recognize his mastery of the subject by the way he could explain challenging concepts through multiple perspectives, always ensuring that young learners could truly understand them.
GYA Sir never showed frustration if a student struggled to understand. Instead, he took it as a challenge to develop an even clearer, more intuitive way to convey the ideas. Throughout the years, I have noticed his special ability of adapting his teaching style and identifying exactly where individual students are stuck. GYA Sir made learning physics really enjoyable and fun, unlike anyone else.
Outside of classroom, his mentorship has had a profound influence on me through Doon and beyond. I have been in regular touch with him even since I graduated from Doon in 2021. He shared articles, recommended books, gave advice on physical well-being, and inspired me through his own life philosophy, something I deeply admire.
It has been a privilege to know GYA Sir, and I am glad to see him continue his passion for teaching and mentorship. I have no doubt that he will leave a positive and lasting impact on every student he works with.
I used to dread Physics, most of it sounded like another language, until I sat in GYA's class. His classes turned the subject from a blur of formulas into a series of “aha!” moments.
What sets him apart is how effortlessly he ignites curiosity. Whether it was demonstrating momentum with everyday objects or guiding me for hours as we built a research report on the mechanics of a toy car, he always found a concrete, memorable way to explain each concept. Before long, the passion he radiated had rubbed off on me: I went from avoiding Physics to charting a full-on STEM trajectory.
GYA teaches you how to think, not just what to memorize. His patient, high-energy coaching made math and science feel accessible, even exciting, and gave me the confidence to dive deeper into research and experimentation.
If you have a chance to learn from or collaborate with GYA, take it. His enthusiasm is contagious, his explanations crystal-clear, and his mentorship life-changing. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Gyaneshwar sir taught me Physics when I attended IIT JEE coaching classes.
He has immense passion for the subject and excels at teaching from first principles. He is also passionate about teaching. He goes the extra mile to help students who show interest in these subjects. I remember him taking online sessions on vectors for me and a couple other students even after he was no longer our teacher.
He also takes a special interest in supporting students in their learning and teaching them how to learn. I recall him encouraging us to make mind maps for the topics we learned as it would help us understand how different concepts
He is one of the major reasons behind my strong performance in competitive exams and why I pursued physics in undergrad. If you have the opportunity, I would highly recommend learning Physics from him!
I was taught Physics HL by Gyani sir, or GYA as we all knew him. GYA had a way of teaching physics that was totally different from anyone else. He loved to teach through experimentation. Some of my best classroom memories are from doing some crazy physics experiments with him, but just as much from the time we spent breaking down the theory behind them. From making rubber band launchers for my Physics IA to magnifying glasses for my EE, the emphasis was always on understanding the why. Sir guided me through both my IA and my EE, and he did it with so much passion. If you were doing a physics EE, it was pretty much assumed that GYA would mentor you, even if he wasn’t your assigned supervisor. He cared way more about your learning than any title or role.
What really stands out about him, though, is that his love for physics isn’t just something he brings to class. It’s who he is. His passion for IYPT is honestly awe-inspiring. He puts in so much time and energy, and it’s clear that he genuinely loves pushing students to think deeper, argue better, and explore harder problems. GYA is hands down the best person to approach when it comes to novel physics research. I feel fortunate to have been his student.
I feel fortunate to have learned from Mr. Gyaneshwaran, who rekindled my curiosity for Physics. It's one thing to teach theoretical concepts, and another to teach students how these concepts are applied in real life, and he has done exactly that.
Furthermore, his classes made me an independent learner, one of the most important skills a student can have as they transition from high school to university.
I deeply appreciate Mr. Gyaneshwaran's efforts towards helping our class become more curious and self-sufficient learners, and any program/ school would be more than lucky to have him.
I was taught Physics by Gyani Sir during my high school years at The Doon School, and he was the best Physics teacher I could have asked for. Especially in IB Physics, he went out of his way to explain challenging concepts through fun, hands-on demonstrations that helped me appreciate the subject. This was important to me because it gave me the clarity to pursue engineering during my university years.
Gyani Sir’s ability to motivate students while being there for them at every step is inspiring. I still remember that while all other teachers were mentoring three students each for their Extended Essays (EEs), he personally helped at least six of us with ours. When I was unable to get results while conducting my EE experiments and was ready to change my topic, he patiently listened to my concerns and helped me fix my experimental setup in the most innovative way. He attached Blu Tack to the bottom of a magnet and made marks on it so that we could track the magnet’s rotation with a concave mirror placed below it. This assistance helped me collect data, and I was able to complete my EE. I later learned that every student in my year whom he had mentored on their EEs received the highest classification, grade 3. Apart from academics, Gyani Sir helped us greatly in organising Alpha, a science competition we had started at Doon. His insights were incredibly helpful, as they allowed us to design the competition to focus on hands-on activities while remaining informative. This allowed us to establish the template for the competition, enabling Alpha to emphasise design thinking rather than content-driven learning.
Thank you very much for teaching and mentoring me throughout my high school years. It instilled in me an appreciation for Physics and research. I would highly recommend him as a Physics teacher and research mentor to anyone passionate about the subject.
Gyaneshwaran sir (better known as GYA) is by far the best science teacher I've ever come across. He has deep mastery of Physics and is able to communicate it to his students in very simple fun ways (and most importantly without compromising on accuracy). Although I was only formally in his class for 2 or 3 years, but I remember him as having taught me for all 6 years of high school. I would often find going to his doubt solving sessions and listening to his class' lecture recordings far more productive than my assigned instructors' sessions.
GYA sir also advised me on a research project. Just fumbling around in 9th grade class, I observed a strange phenomenon (that later turned out to be completely novel). Instead of telling me to not fool around in class or shrugging it off as "out of syllabus", GYA sir encouraged me to pursue my curiosity. Before I knew it, I was building robots, conducting experiments until midnight, analysing massive excel sheets of data, pouring over advanced textbooks, and making simulations. At pretty much every point in time, GYA had a dozen students trying to get his attention, yet he made sure to help each one (including me, a 9th grader) and kept us all motivated to finish the work.
Thank you for teaching and mentoring me. Even though I no longer study physics or do research, the scientific thinking and foundational knowledge you instilled in me continue to help me understand the world around me. Dear reader, if you ever get a chance to take a class by GYA sir, or work with him on a research project, you totally should!
There’s a lot to say about Gyani Sir - he taught me IB Physics for 2 years at the Doon School and it quickly became my favorite subject. Every time we walked into the class room he had an interesting experiment set up or a cool video on a different phenomenon. I think what sets him apart is his ability to make students passionate and curious about the subject outside of the class room. I worked with him on my Physics IA on how a parachute vent hole affects the horizontal drift. He motivated me to go into the field and create an actual parachute to launch off a building and take videos of it. He also helped me use Tracker software to measure Terminal Velocity through those videos. That translation of class work into real world experimentation will stay with me throughout my life.
Gyani Sir is also fabulous at giving students credit for their work. He motivated me to convert my Parachute IA into a Research Paper to submit to a Physics journal and he did the same for my Math IA on Billiards after I had shared it with him. Memories from his Physics class will forever remain with me - I wish him the very best and highly recommend him to anyone curious and intent on learning how the world works!
Gyani sir has been beyond a physics teacher for me. I met him as a substitute teacher for my physics class in FIITJEE back in 2010. But after that he was the physics teacher I always went to. His way of making the subject accessible and solvable and not just doing the homework always stayed with me.
He was also my mentor who helped me make very critical decisions for my educational and career path. I attribute a lot of my achievements in the past and future to him.
GYA sir was my physics professor in high school and I couldn’t recommend him enough both as a mentor and educator. His passion and attention-to-detail for teaching inspired me to follow a path towards math and science and essentially shaped my entire career. He’s always very energetic and keen to help, and has a brilliant understanding of the subject matter. He’s a truly gifted teacher!
