I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. My research interests lie at the intersection of Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP), strongly focusing on sentiment and emotion analysis in social media data. I am particularly interested in advancing research in Multimodal Information Extraction, Mental Health Analysis, and Affective Computing.
I hold a PhD and MTech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, and a Bachelor of Engineering (CSE) from Manipur Institute of Technology, Manipur University. My doctoral research focused on sentiment analysis in the societal domain, specifically understanding public opinions about societal issues shared on platforms like Twitter (now X). To address the complexities of analyzing such discourse, including informal language, topic diversity, and code-mixed content, I developed deep learning methods that combined textual and graph-based representations of tweets, enhancing sentiment classification performance in noisy and diverse social media environments.
As a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, I broadened my research to include multimodal information extraction, contributing to the digital preservation of historical climate logbooks. I also investigated emotional dynamics in mental health-related online interactions. This interdisciplinary work connects NLP with digital humanities and mental health analytics.
