There are three main types of competitive events. Within these are smaller subsections. Below provides you a limited breakdown of the types of events.
Objective (Online) Only Events
- An objective event is a 100-question multiple choice test that will measure a member's knowledge in a certain content area.
- These exams are very focused on a specific topic.
- Nearly half of our competitive events are objective events. Some are restricted for 9/10 students only.
Skills/Production Events
- A skill event is focused on a specific Microsoft Office Suite program, like Word, Excel, and Access. There is also an exam for the entire suite.
- The event is two parts.
- Objective test to measure student knowledge of the program (not completed for DLC).
- Production test to measure practical usage of the program through recreating documents for scoring based on a format guide.
Performance Events
- Performance events test a students ability to solve a problem based on a prompt and convey that to a panel of judges.
- There are three main types of performance events.
- Performance Only - members are provided a prompt or topic in advance and work during the school year to answer the prompt before showcasing their work for judges.
- Prejudged & Performance - members are provided a prompt or topic in advance, submit their work for scoring, and the top competitors advance on to showcase their work for judges.
- Role Play - members take an exam on a content area and the top competitors are invited to a role play with the judges. The role play scenario is provided 10-20 minutes in advance of the performance, and the members must present their answer to the role play to the judges for scoring.
