Meet Our Research Group

Emre Güzel is currently a Professor at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. He received his MSc from İstanbul Technical University in 2011 and Ph.D. from Sakarya University in 2016 in the area of phthalocyanine-based materials. In 2015, he started research on Dye-sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tomas Torres at the Autonomous University of Madrid. His research interests include the preparation and study of various materials based on phthalocyanines and their fundamental and applied investigations in energy conversion devices and photodynamic cancer therapy. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications, patents, and books chapter.

Hilal Çakmak studied chemistry and graduated from Sakarya University. Now she is a master's student at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, and she is working on a master's thesis that deals with photodynamic therapy with her supervisor Dr. Emre Güzel.

She has completed her MSc thesis.

Wafaa Saqallah, a member of our group. She graduated from Pamukkale University, majoring in materials science and engineering. Now she is studying a master's degree at Sakarya University of Applied Science and working on a master's thesis that deals with solar cells with Dr. Emre Güzel.

M. Basit Nadeem member of our group. He graduated from Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan, majoring in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Currently, he’s a Master's student at Sakarya University of Applied sciences specialising in Metallurgy and Materials engineering. He is also working on a master’s thesis focusing on solar cells with Dr. Emre Güzel.

He has completed his MSc thesis.

Md Mofasserul Alam is currently a Guest Researcher at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Sakarya, Turkiye, developing new materials for organic material design and photovoltaic stability studies in Perovskite Solar Cells. He received his B.Sc. in Chemistry (2011) and M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (Thesis Group/ M.Phil. 2013) from the Department of Chemistry, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. Ph.D. (1st Discipline: Chemistry, Major: Applied Chemistry) with the help of CAS-TWAS President Scholarship-2017 from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC, 53rd globally and 6th in China according to Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025) in 2021. Then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2021-2024) at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hefei University of Technology, China. His research interests include the synthesis, functionalization, fabrication, structural design, formulation, tailored functional groups/moieties, and the study of various materials properties based on ion separation, with fundamental and applied investigations in energy conversion, innovative separation/recovery, synthetic biomaterials, and materials science. He has authored or co-authored more than 15 peer-reviewed scientific publications and reviews. He has peer-reviewed more than 45 articles.
