Program Overview
Guyer High School PTSA Presents
The arts—and National PTA® Reflections—support student success and serve as a valuable tool for engaging families and building strong partnerships in the school community. Founded in 1969, Reflections engages nearly 300,000 students and their families in arts education activities each year by encouraging students to explore the arts for fun and recognition.
2018 - 2019 Theme
REFLECT on the theme. CREATE art. BE RECOGNIZED!
Think about what the theme means to you and let your imagination run wild expressing your interpretation of the them in any or all of the six art categories listed below.
Reflections Art Categories & Rules
Recognition & Awards
Students are recognized each year at the Local, Council, State and National PTA levels for their artistic ingenuity to bring the theme to life in a way that is personal and meaningful. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit, and mastery of medium. At the National level, students whose entries receive an award are recognized with awards and prizes.

Submitting Artwork
Use following document as a companion to the Art Category Rules when preparing your artwork for submission.
Remember all entries are due in the Guyer Main Office by 4:00 PM Friday, November 2nd.
Review Criteria
Entries will be judged primarily on how well you use your artistic vision to portray the theme, originality and creativity. Many times, the artist statement will make a huge difference because this is where you can explain in your own words, your thoughts and feelings for your piece.
The following is a sample of the guidelines followed when the judges evaluate the artwork. Notice that more than half of the points are awarded based on how well the artist relates the Reflections theme, "Heroes Around Me" in their artwork and artist statement.
Artist Statement
All entries must include a title and artist statement. The artist statement communicates what inspired your artwork, how it relates to the theme, and the content of the work. The statement must include 10 - 100 words explaining your work and what it means to you.
For example:
- How does your work relate to the theme?
- What is your personal connection to the theme?
- What did you use to create your work (e.g. supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
- What/Who was your inspiration?
Reflections Theme Search
The search is on for a future National PTA Reflections program theme!
The student who submits the winning entry will receive $100, and their theme will be used to spark creativity during the 2020—2021 National PTA Reflections Program. There is no limit to how many different themes you can enter. Submission deadline is November 5, 2018.

- Theme is clear, concise and appropriate for all grade levels.
- Theme is applicable to all arts categories.
- Theme promotes PTA values.
