The bells begin to ring
Ding dong ding dong ding
They mark that it is five
Then one more bell tolls from the pines
I watched as the trees grew taller
I realized I had to run
I hid fearful in my foyer
As the branches blackened the sun
I fled up towards my bedroom
As my windows started to crack
I thought I saw a metal plume
In the reflections on the glass
I heard a scratching on the floor
I heard a tapping on the door
I heard a knocking in the hall
And then I heard a whisper call
And the whisper whispered to me
It said to trust what I can see
The world’s creeping towards its doom
And so I had to seek the bloom
I ran outside, devoid of fear
I rushed towards the growing woods
As wayward brass cut past my ear
My purpose had been understood
The path spiraled into the trees
Doubt grew inside me like a flame
But I had come too far to flee
Though I could not recall my name
A door sprung up in front of me
Between the pines I found the key
And my decision had been made
So I entered the hidden glade
There foul Angelshroom did sway
So warning me to stay away
For ‘neath the cap of pallid shroom
I saw the faint and withered bloom
I picked it up and took it back
The trees began to turn to glass
I found my way out of the path
Escaping from the twisted brass
I took it to the city square
I raised the flower to the sky
And as the fearful masses stared
A whisper echoed in my mind
I’m feared by he who knows decay
who with his pines locked me away
I’m feared by she who hides with mask
who trapped my beauty in her glass
Seek not revenge within the trees
I only ask you look at me
And when your gaze is had in full
the forest will be beautiful
And though around me chaos raged
I sat down on the cobbled street
With every doubt I had assuaged
The flower brought me only peace
I heard a whisper: “Look away”
I worried I’d see only gloom
But when I dared to drop my gaze
The world had begun to bloom
