I woke from restful slumber,
On a bright and early morn;
I saw the birds all singing,
As the morning dew did form;
I wandered to the city,
A strange man gave me chase;
He stopped me at the corner,
And spoke to me in haste:
Have you seen between the pines?
He asked of me that day;
I knew not what to think,
I knew not what to say;
As loamy grasses muster
Through effervescent clay,
Have you seen between the pines?
Before it slips away.
I left him on the corner,
I did not speak a word;
I traveled to the plaza,
With voices left unheard;
The city grew more crowded,
As I wandered through its maze;
The streets were lined with strangers,
But a single voice did say:
Have you seen between the pines?
The voice did ask of me;
I knew not where to run,
I knew not where to be;
As songbirds seek their quarry
and soar above the trees,
Have you seen between the pines?
You'll know it when you see.
I fled out of the city,
And down the forest path;
Once I had found a clearing,
I couldn't help but laugh;
The trees began to rustle,
As wildlife did graze;
The winds began to whisper,
And spoke to me a phrase:
Have you seen between the pines?
It asked that I reply;
I knew not why it spoke,
I knew not what was nigh;
As flowers bloom and blister
With lavender and lye,
Have you seen between the pines?
Beneath the soaring sky.
I fled out of the clearing,
I tried to find my way;
The path from whence I came,
had disappeared away;
I wandered through the forest,
When something caught my gaze;
I understood its meaning
within the foggy haze.
I saw between the pines,
Upon that brackish day;
I knew then what to think,
I knew then what to say;
As loamy grasses mustered
Through effervescent clay,
I saw between the pines
Before it slipped away.Â
