About me

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences at the Federal Center for Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil. I am a collaborating member of the Postgraduate Program in Statistics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).

Currently (May 2025 to April 2026) I am on sabbatical leave as a visiting professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health (EBOH) at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where I have been working with Prof. Alexandra Schmidt on models to account for underreporting in zero-inflated disease counts.

I obtained my undergraduate degree in Statistics at UFMG in 2014. In 2016, I completed my MSc in Statistics at UFMG, with a dissertation focused on Bayesian censored models to underreporting correction. In November 2020 I finished my PhD also at UFMG with a thesis entitled "Challenges in modeling count data: Bayesian models for correction of underreporting bias and estimation of mortality schedules".

I received Honorable Mention in the CAPES Thesis Award 2021 Edition, a national basis competiton, in the area of Mathematics/Probability and Statistics, and 2nd place in the Best Doctoral Thesis Award promoted by the Brazilian Statistics Association in 2022. In 2024, I was selected for funding in the 7th Public Call for Science Support from the Serrapilheira Institute in the area of Mathematics.
