I ran into the same issue a couple days ago, but it was solved by simply downloading the proctorU extension for chrome. When I retried today, the site keeps forcing me to open the test on "guardian browser" (which I had to download) and not the test fails for no reason.

If your test-taker needs a testing accommodation, we will need to know this prior to the first scheduled exam. Once you receive the accommodations request from your test-taker, send an email to support@proctoru.com. All the information your email needs to include can be found here.

ProctorU use their own browser called 'Guardian Browser. It is essential for all students to download and install this prior to practice onboarding and exam day. If the ProctorU Guardian Browser is not downloaded and installed in advance, students will experience delays on exam day. Students using Mac operating systems will need to complete additional screen recording steps. Do not use the ProctorU Guardian Browser when attempting your practice papers or mock exams on Cirrus. The ProctorU Guardian Browser should only be used for Practice Onboarding, all interim assessments and main exam sittings.

You must use the Guardian browser for ProctorU. You will need to install the Guardian browser for Windows OS or Mac OS here to take a ProctorU exam. You will receive further information from Exams and Timetabling or your Course Convenor prior to your exam about access and preparation.

Please note: UND has not transitioned to the ProctorU Guardian browser yet. Some Blackboard and ProctorU screens may include text or instructions about the Guardian browser. Please disregard any references to the Guardian browser and follow the instructions below instead. UND plans to transition to the Guardian browser for the Spring 2024 Semester.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a free custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, the computer is locked into the exam until it is submitted for grading. Compatible with Mac and Windows.

ProctorU's error message says this could be because the ProctorU extension isn't downloaded (it is) or because of privacy settings on my browser (which I have turned off on the proctorU page). I am out of ideas, any thoughts?

Firefox and other secure browsers hide computer information, such as CPU model, to prevent tracking by computer characteristics called fingerprinting, which explains why the information below was missing:

No, unless your instructor has specifically allowed you to access software for your exam. Attempting to run programs other than proctoring may result in your session being terminated. Please comply with the technical instructions for your exam by closing any extra applications or browser windows.

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace.

You must be in a private location with a clean desk area. You must also remove headphones, non-religious headwear, and smartwatches. You may not sit on a couch or overstuffed chair. A kitchen or office chair is acceptable. Click these links for additional information regarding unpermitted testing locations and unpermitted behaviors/actions during the exam.

Step 2: Have your photo ID ready.

You must have a government-issued or school ID to verify your identity.

Step 3: Log in to ProctorU and start session.

Approximately 20 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time, use the Guardian browser to log in to your ProctorU account and start your exam session.

Step 4: Download software.

Follow the prompts as directed to download the required software, which allows ProctorU to access your computer, record the exam session, and test your internet connection. For additional technical support, click the Support icon in the Guardian browser.

ProctorU does not permanently impact your computer in any way. You will be able to see everything your proctor is doing while you are connected. Once your exam is over and you have closed out of your ProctorU chat session and video connection, the screen sharing client is removed from your computer. You may also uninstall the Guardian browser after each exam session if you choose to do so.

If you are unable to install the ACER Test App on your computer, the cause could be, but is not limited to, firewall or antivirus issues. Check your browsers for any updates and update your computer first then try again to download the ACER Test APP. If you are still experiencing issues, please contact us.

Please note: UND has not transitioned to the ProctorU Guardian browser yet. Some Blackboard and ProctorU screens may include text or instructions about the Guardian browser. Please advise students to disregard any references to the Guardian browser. UND plans to transition to the Guardian browser for the Spring 2024 Semester.

If the assessment is considered low stakes, something like a weekly quiz to ensure students are ready for the upcoming activities, consider keeping the barriers to completing the quiz low by just requiring student to use a lockdown browser with or without any monitoring. This allows students to warm up to the concept of an online proctored test and get some practice prior to moving on to a high-stakes assessment. The barriers to getting started with the lockdown browsers are low for both the instructor and the student. This type of proctoring is done within MyCourses and is tightly integrated with the Quiz Tool. This form of proctoring is also very low-cost; just pennies per exam and paid by GGC through our annual license agreement.

For more high-stakes exams, you may wish to consider using a service that offers a live proctor or if your class is small enough (less than 25 students) proctor the exam yourself using a combination of the lockdown browser and Zoom. Services that involve live proctors are currently covered by the college. Live proctor options are also great for helping to prepare students that will have to take licensing exams for professional certifications.

Monitor is a feature of the lockdown browser that adds a webcam recording of the test session with artificial intelligence (AI) flagging of suspicious behaviors. Instructors can enable the Monitor feature via the MyCourses Quiz Tool integration with Respondus Lockdown Browser. This feature requires that students have access to a webcam.

If you are a DIY-type instructor, you can try to proctor your own MyCourses quizzes/tests/exams using the lockdown browser and Zoom. Instructors can enable the live proctoring feature via the MyCourses Quiz Tool integration with Respondus Lockdown Browser. This option works best with a class size less than 25 as this is the number of students that Zoom can easily display on one screen when in the Gallery View.

To conduct a live proctoring session, an instructor begins their Zoom session, and when ready, instructs students to begin the MyCourses quiz/test/exam which requires RLDB. The instructor monitors students via Zoom.

yeah I had a similar issue. it was showing the same thing for me on my mac. Clean my mac didn't free up enough RAM. I ended up using a different computer.... just for peace of mind. Were you using Chrome as your browser? Chrome uses a lot of ram. So maybe test with a different browser? e24fc04721
