[July/2026] Postdoctoral Researcher (MIP & Non-Convex Opt & Structured Learning) at NUS:
The Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for two fully funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions, available as early as July 2026. These positions are offered on a "1+1''-year renewable basis. We are seeking self-motivated researchers who possess a Ph.D. in Optimization, Operations Research, or related fields. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and solid mathematical abilities in Mixed-Integer Programming, Nonlinear Optimization, and/or Structured Learning Theory. Successful applicants will work under the supervision of Dr. Guanyi Wang in ISEM at NUS to explore cutting-edge algorithms, derive rigorous theoretical guarantees, and implement numerical simulations. Candidates will engage in research including, but not limited to, the following areas:
Mixed-Integer Linear/Quadratic Programming: MIP presolving techniques; Cutting-plane methods; MIP relaxations and decomposition methods; Fast MIP approximation or randomized algorithms.
Non-Convex Optimization: Global optimization and outer approximation algorithms; Convexifications and dualizations for nonconvex optimization; LLM for efficient and effective reformulation; Learning approaches for combinatorial optimization.
Structured Learning: Learning value functions for problems with structures; Learning under the "Predict-then-Optimize'' framework.
If you are interested in working with us as a postdoctoral researcher (Research Fellow), consider sending your latest CV, research statement, and research plan to guanyi.w@nus.edu.sg with the title ``Application for Fall 2026 Postdoctoral Researcher (Research Fellow) Position''. Review or interview of applicants will begin as soon as possible and will continue until the position is filled.
Dr. Guanyi Wang (王冠一) is an assistant professor at the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management, National University of Singapore. Before joining the NUS, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Polytechnique Montréal, under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Lodi from July 2021 to Jun 2022. Guanyi Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization (ACO) from the Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at Georgia Institute of Technology, in May 2021, advised by Dr. Santanu S. Dey. Before joining Georgia Tech, Guanyi Wang received a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Johns Hopkins University, advised by Dr. Amitabh Basu, and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology Beijing.
My research interests broadly lie in the field of Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP), with a focus on the following three categories:
Provable reformulations, convexifications, and relaxations for (large-scale) decision-making problems (in MIP format);
Computationally efficient presolving methodologies for MIP solvers;
Approximation algorithms for problems arising in operations research, operations management, and statistical learning, particularly those with geometric or discrete structures.
