Three revisions of the PlayStation 2 version exist, each with various fixes and changes. They are version 1.40, which come in first-print releases of the original game, Version 2.01, which comes with the Double Pack and version 3.00, which are later copies of the video game with some going under the Platinum/Greatest Hits line.

The Tear Gas weapon was removed due to its uselessness and causing performance issues. The only pickup behind the Washington Beach police station was replaced by regular grenades, to make up for this. However, the weapon remains in the game's code and can be used with a cheat device or a trainer.

Hey, guys I just wanted to quickly ask. I saw everyone saying that Billie jean got removed from the pc version of the game and that it only exists on the ps2 version but a couple of months ago I played vice city and I swear it had Billie jean and I just started a new game on vice city and hopped on the faggio and boom Billie jean started playing so what's going on ?

At times the game might heavily use your devices's resources, making it run hot. While this is normal, if you're uncomfortable with how warm your device is getting or get any warnings from it, the best thing to do is to stop playing for a bit and let it cool down.

Due to a variety of technical limitations, the game cannot run on every device. If you see this message, you won't be able to install the game on your device. We'll be exploring making it available on more devices in the future.

In fact, San Andreas also doesn't work by default either, unless I force it to use integrated graphics (not a problem). However, with VC and GTA III that doesn't work, even though I forced them to use integrated graphics.

Its not easy to debug a Steam game that I don't own, but I can try to replicate the problem with a DVD version of the game, usually Steam doesn't add too much to the games apart from the protection schema.

In any case, it could be precious a game DxWnd log, grabbed activating the logs as in the screenshot below, then running the game with the crash and grabbing the dxwnd, log file from the game install folder. Could you produce that file and post it here?

I tried the "Suppress D3D8/9 reset" flag but that didn't fix it. I also tried a bunch of older DxWnd versions (including versions that are known working for other people with the GTA games) but it didn't work.

3rd suggestion meant this:

1) go to DxWnd distribution folder and look into "proxy" subfolder

2) grab the files d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll from there and copy them in GTA folder

3) run the game with DxWnd

The crash is within atiumdag.dll in some obscure point, but within a d3d8 method, so not caused directly by DxWnd. There must be some condition set by DxWnd that harms atiumdag.dll, the ATI card driver. If one could guess what harms d3d8 it should be easy to fix, but it's not an easy guess.

Hey there. I want to start my first Vice City playthrough (PS2 version...). Do you recommend me to play the 1.40 version (with tear gas, and the Lionel Richie song), or should I grab a later version? Any suggestions?

AFAIK 2.01 still has the tear gas and it fixed a few major bugs, but it doesn't have Running with the night on Flash FM. Imo if you want to have that particular song then go for 1.40, otherwise I would probably choose 2.01.

Dumb question: If I want to switch between 2.01 and 1.40, will I be able to use the same save game? So, I play 1.40, get annoyed by the detonator bug, and then I want to try 2.01 - will my savegame work with that version, and vice versa?

I honestly have no idea, I've never tried it and with a quick search I can't seem to find anything. Probably saves should be interchangeable between 1.40 and 2.01, maybe it could become an issue between 1.40 and 3.00, but I'm just guessing.

I was always wondering if the 4.00 came from The Trilogy Version on PS2 (and maybe some stand alone version too) or not, the last edition with some songs removed due to the copyright. That's because until today we can see a lot of Trilogy Version on PS2 still factory sealed on the sales websites like Ebay etc with a low price, people believe that this is the Trilogy Version released in 2006 but in fact most of them are an edition who came much later with some songs removed, we can see some details here from the member agent 47  -heads-up-if-your-buying-a-new-copy-of-vice-city/

I would have never imagined there were PS2 copies of Vice City with the post-2012 soundtrack, good to know if you're on the market looking for a new copy. Those looking for a PAL release probably won't have to worry about it, 4.00 was launched only in the NTSC-U region according to here: -e090-41ff-ad58-fc4b1044fb95.

NOTE: All version save files can exist in the same memory card however, just loading them becomes a hassle since releases one and two have to be booted without that card to allow new game to happen and then load, if the version you're playing doesn't have the newest save file saving date, as that's what the game tries to load - newest save file - if it detects any files being present.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has three distinct editions; the original edition, for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC, the 10th Anniversary Edition, for the Apple iOS and Android, and The Definitive Edition for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition was announced by Rockstar on October 26th, 2012.[1] On November 21, 2012, Rockstar further revealed it would be launched on December 6, 2012, for iOS and Android devices, and would cost $4.99 for both the App Store version and the Google Play version (with the British release costing 2.99 for the App Store and 3.29 for the Google Play Store).[2]

Rockstar announced that it would include "native high-resolution graphics and several enhancements unique to the iOS and Android platforms including updated character models and lighting effects, new and more precise firing and targeting options, a fully customizable control layout and native support for retina display devices."[3]

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is a 2002 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the fourth main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 2001's Grand Theft Auto III, and the sixth instalment overall. Set in 1986 within the fictional Vice City (based on Miami and Miami Beach), the single-player story follows mobster Tommy Vercetti's rise to power after being released from prison and becoming caught up in an ambushed drug deal. While seeking out those responsible, he gradually builds a criminal empire by seizing power from other criminal organisations in the city.

Upon its release, Vice City received critical acclaim, with praise particularly directed at its music, gameplay, story, and open world design. However, the game also generated controversy over its depiction of violence and racial groups, sparking lawsuits and protests. Vice City became the best-selling video game of 2002 and has sold over 17.5 million copies. Considered one of the most significant titles of the sixth generation of video games and one of the greatest video games ever made, it won numerous year-end accolades including Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications.

During the story, Tommy meets characters from various gangs. As the player completes missions for different gangs, fellow gang members will often defend the player, while rival gang members will recognise the player and subsequently shoot on sight. While free roaming the game world, the player may engage in activities such as a vigilante minigame, a fire fighting activity, a paramedic service and a taxi cab service. Completion of these activities grants the player with context-specific rewards.[9] As Tommy builds his criminal empire, the player may purchase a number of properties distributed across the city, some of which act as additional hideouts where weapons can be collected and vehicles can be stored.[14] There are also a variety of businesses which can be purchased, including a pornographic film studio, a taxi company, and several entertainment clubs. Each commercial property has a number of missions attached to it, such as eliminating competition or stealing equipment; once all missions are complete, the property begins to generate an ongoing income available for the player.[8]

In 1986, mobster Tommy Vercetti (voiced by Ray Liotta) is released from prison after serving a fifteen-year sentence for murder. His boss Sonny Forelli (Tom Sizemore), seeking to establish drug operations in the south, sends Tommy to Vice City to oversee an important drug deal alongside crooked lawyer Ken Rosenberg (William Fichtner). However, the deal is ambushed by unknown assailants, with Tommy and Ken barely escaping. Angered upon hearing the news, Sonny orders Tommy to recover the drugs, alongside the money he gave to him, under threat of consequences. Seeking information, Ken points Tommy towards retired army colonel Juan Garcia Cortez (Robert Davi), who helped set up the exchange. Expressing regret for the ambush, Cortez promises to find out who masterminded it.

While investigating, Tommy meets with several people who offer him help: music director Kent Paul (Danny Dyer), who maintains connections with the city's criminal underworld; Lance Vance (Philip Michael Thomas), who aided in the deal and lost his brother in the ambush; Texan business tycoon Avery Carrington (Burt Reynolds), who in return enlists Tommy's help with several deals; and drug kingpin Ricardo Diaz (Luis Guzmn), who employs both Tommy and Lance. Eventually, Cortez begins voicing his suspicions that Diaz organised the ambush. Upon further investigation, Lance discovers this to be the truth and, against Tommy's advice, tries to kill Diaz, only to get himself captured. After Tommy saves Lance, the pair kills Diaz before he can retaliate. With Diaz dead, Tommy takes over his assets and, at Avery's suggestion, works to expand his new criminal empire by forcing businesses to pay him protection money and buying out nearly bankrupt companies to use as fronts for illicit operations. At the same time, Tommy provides assistance to several prominent gang leaders in the hopes they will support his expansion, and helps Cortez flee the city with stolen military equipment. e24fc04721
