Greensboro Solar Power Now Coalition

The Solar Power Now Coalition is made up of leaders and activists in Greensboro, North Carolina, who are demanding action on the climate crisis and a move towards 100% clean energy.

Our Coalition is asking the Guilford County Schools to create a plan in the next year to transition to 100% clean energy by 2050. Our leadership team includes representatives from Environmental Stewardship Greensboro, Greensboro Earth Quakers, Guilford College, Emerging Ecology, and the Sierra Club. Please join our campaign by emailing the Guilford County Board of Education to let them know you support clean energy! Email:

Schools, school districts, and cities around the country are making commitments to run on 100% clean energy to improve public health and to help tackle climate change. American K-12 schools have an important part to play in reducing carbon pollution from buildings, given that they are major energy consumers, using as much energy as 43% of all office space nationwide.

A reduction in emissions from dirty energy sources will result in tangible improvements in student health and performance, particularly among the most vulnerable.

Guilford County Schools can commit to supporting programs and strategies to make schools energy-efficient living laboratories to teach children to understand STEM concepts through clean energy applications and acknowledge that greener schools can contribute directly to the educational and operational objectives of GCS.

We are asking GCS to commit to principles of equity, justice, and inclusion, while transitioning to 100% clean energy, which will help advance these goals by:

a) saving money that can be invested into underresourced schools,

b) helping to address climate change, which disproportionately impacts low-income communities and communities of color, and

c) creating STEM learning opportunities.
