GRADUATE RIGHTS & OUR WELLBEING
Graduate Rights & Our Wellbeing (GROW) is a labor organizing and advocacy group by and for graduate workers. We advocate for better, fairer, safer, and more democratic workplace conditions for graduate students at Purdue University, and across Indiana.
GROW is a part of the local community and the labor movement at large. GROW has affiliated with United Auto Workers, joined with Indiana University Bloomington's Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition (IGWC-UE) to begin a statewide coalition, and coordinates events with Greater Lafayette Democratic Socialists of America (GLDSA), American Association of United Professors (AAUP Purdue), Greater Lafayette Tenants Union (GLTU).
We believe the university should be a place that supports everyone—including graduate students who are international, first generation, raising families, and traditionally marginalized. A work environment that only allows some of us to succeed is a failure.
We believe that transparency, inclusion, cooperation, and collaborative decision making are central to successful organizing, and we need these qualities in our workplaces. We stand in solidarity with groups that serve to advance the rights of all graduate workers and laborers. As Purdue administration continues to neglect graduate student needs and deepen divides between departments, GROW aims to give graduate students a voice with stewardship and representation.

Can you unionize in Indiana? Yes.
Living in a right-to-work state does not make unionizing illegal. It just means the recognition of a union is not automatic.
Can international graduate students unionize? Yes.
International students are protected under all the same laws as domestic students.
According to the US Department of Labor, "U.S. laws generally prohibit employers from retaliating against workers for exercising their workplace rights, regardless of the workers’ immigration status."
