GRouteLoader
GRouteLoader is a MS Windows "workbench" program that makes it easy to view and copy files to (and manage files on) your Garmin GPS device.
Note: Garmin is moving to have devices use the MTP protocol for file transfers. This includes updating firmware on some devices to use MTP. GRouteLoader doesn't support this (yet).
Features
Easy downloads of public/personal/club routes and trips directly from Ride with GPS (RidewithGPS, RWGPS).
Easy downloads of your pinned RWGPS routes/trips.
Easy downloads of public routes from gpsies.com, bikenet, and cycloclub.be (websites popular outside of the US).
For other sites, GRouteLoader will automatically pick up fit/gpx/tcx files downloaded to your Downloads folder.
Add routes/courses to your device by dragging links/files and clicking a button.
Download multiple routes at once by dragging a list of URLs (in emails, for example).
Fewer steps than the standard method of downloading the files and using Windows Explorer to copy them.
Manage course and activity files on your device.
Copy routes to more than one Garmin device at a time.
Easily view course and activity files in Google Earth, GPXSee, or Garmin BaseCamp.
Manage a webserver on your PC so you can download routes wirelessly using the GRouteLoader IQ app on your Garmin (somewhat advanced).
(Note that the 1050 uses MTP to connect to your PC. GRouterLoader can't handle those types of devices yet.)
GRouteLoader is used by members of my bicycle club to download routes while browsing the ride schedule. It's also used to download multiple routes for trips that are listed in emails (it's easier to have people use this program than do this the "regular way").
The steps to copy routes:
Plug your Garmin GPS using a USB cable into your computer.
Run GRouteLoader.
Collect links and files by dragging and dropping them into a list. (You can do these three steps in any order.)
Click on the “Copy” or “Copy to Garmin” button to copy the collected files to your device.
Click “Eject” button.
Click “Close” to exit the program.
Unplug your Garmin GPS.
Done!
