Groove Atlas

"Omnivorous musical tastes, bouncy bluegrass inspired music, folk rock, and some straight up guitar driven alternative"

- 9.25 The River

Groove Atlas is a folk-rock band based out of Dover New Hampshire that blends the beauty of bluegrass and folk with the energy of rock and blues. Our wide range of sounds and genres allows us to perform laid back acoustic sets in an intimate setting or fill a room with psychedelic jams. Check out our sound below!

In 2022 we set out to record an album of original music in the month of February as part of the Record Production Month (RPM) Challenge. We completed the challenge in 2021 but wanted to level up the quality of our recordings and the depth of our music in 2022. In February, we created Snowdeo.

Snowdeo features a broad range of music and instrumentation. From screaming saxophone solos on How Do You Know to the tender yet haunting guitar melodies on Daniel, you never know what is going to come next.

Origin Story

The origins of Groove Atlas go back to Griffin’s parents basement. That’s where Jake and DJ would go to jam in highschool. Those last night jam sessions are where they started to learn how to play music together and discovered that magic that comes with playing in a band. Now they’ve been playing together for over a decade.

We reunited for the occasional jam session throughout college but they didn’t start seriously playing together again until the COVID lockdown. The lockdown prompted DJ and Jake to start learning new instruments. They respectively picked up mandolin and banjo and would bring Griffin over to learn bluegrass tunes on their porch. Sometimes the neighbors would even come out and listen. We were having fun but it probably wouldn’t have gone very far if we didn’t meet Chris.

Finding a solid bass player finally made a serious musical project attainable for us. After trudging through the dumpster fire that was 2020 we set out to record an album as part of the Record Production Month (RPM) Challenge. In February of 2021 Groove Atlas officially formed. We recorded an original album of 9 songs in just 28 days. In 2022 we completed the RPM Challenge again with a lot more experience than we had the year before. Currently we're working on an EP that isn’t as rushed as an RPM record and starting to gig with the catalog of music we've been building together over the past two years.
