Groot Translate is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our translation application on Android, iOS, web, and other supported platforms.

1. Overview

Groot Translate is a translation app that offers two modes:

• Cloud Translation: Text you enter is sent to Google Cloud Translation API to provide translations.

• On-Device Translation: Translation is performed entirely on your device using Google ML Kit. No text is sent to any server when you use this mode.

Your choice of mode directly affects what data leaves your device. We encourage you to read this policy to understand your options.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Text you translate (Cloud mode only): When you use Cloud Translation, the text you enter, along with the source and target language codes, is sent to Google's translation service to produce the translation. We do not store this text on our own servers.

• Preferences: We store your app preferences locally on your device, such as:

  - Selected language for the app interface

  - Theme (e.g., light or dark mode)

  - Preferred translation mode (cloud or on-device)

  - Preferred languages for cloud translation

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device and app information: To support app functionality (such as compatibility and updates), we may collect information such as:

  - Device model, brand, and operating system

  - App version and build information

  - A device or installation identifier (e.g., for fingerprinting or update checks)

This information may be used only for providing and improving the app (e.g., force-update checks, troubleshooting). We do not use it to identify you personally unless required by law.

2.3 Information Not Collected

• We do not require you to create an account or log in.

• We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or other personal identifiers unless you voluntarily provide them (e.g., in feedback).

• When you use On-Device Translation, your typed text is processed only on your device and is not sent to us or any third party.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide translation services (cloud and on-device).

• Remember your preferences (language, theme, translation mode).

• Operate and maintain the app (e.g., compatibility, updates).

• Improve app performance and user experience.

• Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests.

We do not use your data for advertising or to build a profile about you for marketing.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Google Services

Our app uses Google services, which have their own privacy practices:

• Google Cloud Translation API: When you use Cloud Translation, your input text and language choices are sent to Google to receive translations. Google's use of this data is governed by Google Cloud Privacy Notice (https://cloud.google.com/terms/cloud-privacy-notice) and Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).

• Google ML Kit: On-Device Translation uses Google ML Kit. Translation models may be downloaded from Google; the actual translation of your text is performed on your device. For more information, see ML Kit Terms (https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms).

We do not control how Google or Firebase process data on their systems. We recommend reviewing their policies.

4.2 Other Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

5. Data Storage and Retention

• On your device: Your preferences (language, theme, translation mode, cloud language choices) are stored locally on your device. You can clear them by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app.

• On our systems: We do not store the text you translate on our own servers. When you use Cloud Translation, that text is sent to Google's API; retention is governed by Google's policies.

• Device/app information: If we collect device or app information, we retain it only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including:

• Using secure connections (e.g., HTTPS) when communicating with our backend or third-party APIs.

• Storing preferences locally on your device in a way that is not exposed to other apps without appropriate system permissions.

• Relying on Google's security practices for data processed by Google services.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but we work to protect your data in line with this policy.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.

• Correct inaccurate personal data.

• Delete your personal data, subject to legal exceptions.

• Object or restrict certain processing.

• Data portability (e.g., receive your data in a structured format).

You can exercise control by:

• Choosing On-Device Translation so that your typed text is never sent to any server.

• Clearing app data or uninstalling the app to remove locally stored preferences.

• Contacting us (see Section 10) to request access, correction, or deletion of any personal data we hold.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or other regions with similar laws, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. Children's Privacy

Groot Translate is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:

• Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.

Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
