The route ran across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as making a visit to the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man.

As part of the route the Olympic torch passed through Great Wyrley and along to Newtown where a celebrity band took a turn in carrying the torch on a part of its journey.
