My name is Monica Gray. As a formerly licensed math and CTE teacher in Portland, Oregon, I taught math and engineering in Portland Public Schools for five years. I am qualified to teach middle and high school math, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics.
I meet Portland students at their home or at a neighborhood Multnomah County library location. I am available to provide support in the form of homework help, accelerated learning, deepening understanding, study plans, and test preparation (ACT, SAT).
I graduated from Oregon State University in 2003 with a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I worked as an engineer for ten years before earning an M.A. in Secondary Education, Mathematics. I taught high school math and engineering for eight years before returning to the tech industry two years ago.
I am passionate about math education and believe all learners can find success with math using the right combination of methods, practice, and teaching style.
I will meet the learner where they are in their math journey and will always aim to make learning math fun.
Rates
45 minutes: $40
60 minutes: $50
Note: I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots each semester. Ask me about this if my regular rates would pose a financial difficulty for you.
Frequency / Duration
My general recommendation is to meet either once a week or once every two weeks for either 45 or 60 minutes. The frequency and duration can be adjusted, as needed.
The frequency should fit the current learning situation. For example, if the support is intended for deeper understanding and supplemental support, meeting once every week or two should suffice; whereas, if the learner is behind, it is best to meet once a week or even twice a week until caught up.
The duration should fit the focus and attention needs of the learner.
