Lindsey and Shelley Roberts
Drs. Lindsey and Shelley Roberts opened Grassroots Pharmacy in 2017 in the Hamburg area of Lexington, KY with a goal to make their community healthier. This involved being more than a traditional community pharmacy and integrating all areas of a healthy lifestyle: including staying active! Having a love for the sport of running themselves, and 4 children that they wanted to pass that love along to, the Roberts began to organize a youth running group. What started as a small group run for kids and their parents on the patio of the pharmacy every Saturday morning developed into so much more. Sponsorships from the pharmacy and growing community support quickly propelled Grassroots Running Club to include competitive school-based cross county, track and field, and USATF youth club teams.
Grassroots Running Club is first and foremost a group for youth and adult runners to simply meet up and enjoy running together. You DON’T have to be competing with our teams to join our group fun run/walks or to get involved. We want EVERYONE in our Bluegrass community to join us no matter the age, experience or ability. Come get active with us, and bring your family, friends and neighbors!
Grassroots Running Club was founded in 2017 by Drs. Lindsey and Shelley Roberts, owners of Grassroots Pharmacy, and became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2018. It was created to offer support and promote opportunities for youth and adults to enjoy their passion for running/ walking and competitive sport in cross-country, track and field, and road racing. It has been heavily involved in initiating and supporting elementary track and cross country club programs in Fayette County Public Schools. Though our youth teams and club are in their early years, our love and passion for running have deep roots established decades ago. Our goal is to promote youth running in every way and grow the youth culture in and around Lexington.
Grassroots Running Club is an official USA Track and Field (USATF) registered member organization and competitive club in the Kentucky Association. Our youth club team members have won many individual and team awards and have become competitive in track and field and cross country at the local, state and regional levels; including multiple qualifications for the USATF’s Junior Olympic National Championships. More importantly, many of our young athletes and families have been newly introduced to these sports and have quickly developed into hardworking, gritty, competitive, progressing athletes. They have learned how to dig deep, have faith and surprise themselves when it’s go-time.
We are passionate about all things running, cross-country, and track and field and we believe that good fellowship, hard work, a little grit, and a lot of faith produces good fruit within our club, teams, schools, and community.
Our goal is to provide as many free experiences as possible to our community of youth and adult runners/ walkers. We do not want personal financial situations to be an obstacle to anyone in our community to enjoy this active way of life in the bluegrass. With so many beautiful places to get active and stay active we know that, together, we can make a positive impact in our community and appreciate all of you who have joined us in this effort!
