PDF has become the format commonly used for reading, creating, and sending text documents. In turn, there has been a rise in the number of programs used for this kind of documents. PDF-XChange Viewer is among the growing number of PDF viewers. This productivity app offers all the usual functions you may need to open and read your PDF files. It is also an excellent tool for converting non-text-searchable PDF documents to text-searchable ones that's why it has become popular among on the list of Softonic PDF tools online,

As mentioned, PDF-XChange Viewer offers all the tools you would expect from a PDF viewer, including zoom tools, measuring features, and link functions. Commenting and markup are also supported and are even easy to insert. Additionally, the app allows you to email your document directly from its window, provided that you have a compatible program installed on your computer.

Every time I open a new document in the pdf x-change viewer, it gets opened in the same window. I want to place different documents on different places on the screen (independently of each other, not just tiling the window for side-by-side view), but cannot do it. Even going to the start menu and starting the reader again doesn't open a new instance of the application. Can I force the program to open a new instance or a new independent window?

PDF-XChange Viewer is a great PDF-viewer full of useful features. It can display multiple PDF files within a tabbed interface and can even edit PDF files. The program can also be run as a portable application from pen drives and USB sticks.Edit functions include rotate documents, add comments or annotations to PDF files, add watermarks to your PDFs from any image file on your hard drive or from the Windows clipboard, mark-up pages with text and objects and even edit the text in PDF files directly from within the PDF-XChange Viewer "Typewriter" mode. The program can also convert your PDF documents to image files such as JPEGs, TIFFs, PNGs and Bitmaps or even directly to a TXT file for viewing, saving and editing in Windows Notepad.Overall, a great program for a great price (free!) Some additional features PDF-XChanger Viewer includes are measuring tools, a snapshot tool and some additional goodies you'd not normally expect in a free program.Features of PDF-XChange ViewerAnnotation: Markup, highlight, draw, add text and stamps. Batch Processing: Automate tasks like merging, printing and saving. Collaboration: Share and collaborate with others. Compression: Reduce file size. Compatibility and LicensePDF-XChange Viewer is a freeware, but ad-supported application available on Windows from PDF software. Hey all, Weird one. My boss uses the above PDF app to view his bank / credit card statements, however when he prints them, certain fields on the paper will be covered with black squares to block out the account number and such. This does not happen with chrome or adobe. I would like to change his pdf viewer to chrome, but he's kinda stuck on this. I posted a message in their forums this morning and no response yet, google knows nothing of this either. anyone ever see this?

I downloaded the Firefox plugin - beautiful! Then I foolishly started fiddling with the menus and optionsĀ

within the FF viewer. I'm not sure how it happened but IĀ

lost all the menu bars from inside the browser viewer. ForĀ

example, I can't save a file because I don't have the menuĀ

bars or icons with which to do it.I uninstalled and reinstalled and the menu options from theĀ

plugin within FF are gone and I can't get them back.I do have the menu options in the freestanding program butĀ

not the one that opens from within FF. It seems I need toĀ

replace the plugin but I've no idea how to do that.Help? Suggestions?Louise

@zorro:

I updated my default PDF viewer (PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.320) today. Tracker Software still updates the Viewer.

Why don't I use the PDF-XChange Editor? Simple, I need a PDF viewer, not an editor.

PDF-XChange is excellent and very fast! The option Search is multifunctional. I can find a word or its part even in Bookmark in many pdfs. PDF-XChange Viewer is now available in the cloud.

The best pdf viewer I've ever used. The free version is excellent and far easier to use (and faster) than Adobe Reader. In new version I looked some nice futures as changing colour, fonts or main background according to your style and mood, I can close even a single opened tab without closing the Viewer itself, ... I think about buying PRO.

Someone earlier in this thread [Tinte] mentioned the regret of not being able to create new bookmarks- True, but the free version of Foxit Reader allows the creation of Bookmarks-- I use Foxit & PDF XChange viewer as a "suite", utilizing the features of each that I need for a particular document.

I tried Pdf XChange viewer and then bought the full program. The free viewer includes most necessary commenting and annotation tools - quite a lot, in fact - but not the ability to delete individual pages or merge documents. I need to be able to do this and bought the Pro version. The license key also works in the portable version, meaning I now have full control over pdf documents regardless of which PC I work on - a great advantage since my workplace PC does not have Acrobat and Pdf XChange works much better than Acrobat anyway. Its very, very well made.

STDUViewer is free and has a similar session manager as pdf x-change editor (EXCELLENT but costly... save window layouts with sessions+more options than stduViewer) ://uvviewsoft.com/uviewer/lister_plugins.htm

Sumatra allows multiple instances but STDUviewer no. You have to use sandboxes... I tried, its ok...In practice, I keep one STDUViewer for set of books i need to change very often (e.g reference manual/data sheets sets for physics, math, chemistry, etc). I have sets of books for say chemistry (e.g fixed set of 15 text-books) which wont change often... for those, I use SUMATRA. Its good to remember that the software Calibre offer a vast array of plugins to convert rare format of books to one SUMATRA reads. Its extremely rare to meet a format Sumatra won't read... Even DJVU format (there is a special reader DjVuReader 2.0.026 though)

The photo previewer doesn't use any of the application associations to decide how to display that info, instead what it does is hand off the file to your web browser and tell it the MIME type for the file, your web browser then displays it in the PW Explorer window. The association of the mimetype to a viewer is buried deep in the registry.

When I encountered a similar issue (PDF viewing being handed off to BlueBeam that wanted to download the file and then open it instead) I did a Repair Install on Adobe Acrobat and that set itself as the PDF web viewer again. Might try that with PDF X-Change.

with root rights in /usr/local/bin/pdfxchange. This is done like this: sudo cp source /usr/local/bin

Then you have to give some strange rights to it to make it executable: sudo chmod 775 /usr/local/bin/pdfxchange

You can start PDFxchange viewer now from terminal: pdfxchange PDFFILE.pdf

Change the settings of Firefox/ JabRef etc which application they should use in /usr/local/bin/pdfxchange

Wow this Bluebeam looks really promising! Calibration, precision, YES!!! I will dig into it and see how it works with our processes, but so far its the best viewer I've ever seen. Re-exporting the current PDF is not an option. These are all being auto created by my toolkit, I could easy just create a dxf at the same time but I don't want to have two copies of exports to maintain.

Glad that you find the program useful. Can you add which operating system (e.g. the distribution and its version) you use? Because if you have Poppler version 0.20 or higher and qpdfview 0.3.2 or later, adding annotations (that is highlighting text and adding notes) should be possible and they should generally be compatible with other PDF viewers. be457b7860
