In this article, we will take a brief look at the main Steinway grand piano models, with links to a further description of each model. That way, if you see one you want to investigate further before coming into one of our showrooms, you can access that information directly through this article.

A quite popular model for institutions of higher education and symphonies, the Model D is the official piano of hundreds of musical venues, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Juilliard, and the New England Conservatory.

This difference in length makes the Model A an easier fit in many homes than the Model B. However, the Model A is still long enough to accommodate those looking for a full Steinway grand that provides a concert-quality Steinway sound despite the smaller size.

Though smaller than other models like the O and the A, the Model M still retains a sound that richly fills a home or small venue without being overwhelming. This is due to its Steinway soundboard. Its responsive action produces a touch that can engage any style of music.

However, if you want the Steinway sound but have real space considerations, the Model S can be the perfect fit for their home or small venue. The S is a special order piano from Steinway, only a little smaller than the Model M.

These new Steinway grand pianos range between $86,600 and over $300,000, depending upon style and finish. M. Steinert & Sons piano consultants can keep you updated on the current price for each model.

Our experienced piano consultants enjoy learning about your needs and aspirations when it comes to having a piano in your home. They can serve as your guide through the interesting process of choosing a Steinway.

The GB1K, Yamaha's most compact and affordable grand, is a popular choice for locations where space is somewhat limited, with full resonant tone comparable to that of many substantially larger models.

The Yamaha Baby Grand Piano GC1 model used to be owned and played by my husband who passed away last year, the dimension is "151cm by 146cm". It was last tuned sometime last year before he passed. She's about 3 years old and in impeccable condition.

I'm moving my properties to another place and I don't think my husband will be happy if I sell this piano, so I'm hoping to give it out to someone who is a passionate lover of the instrument. I wasn't going to leave it alone in an empty house.

Good day

I would like to give away my late husband's Yamaha baby grand piano to a passionate instrument lover as I am relocating back to the United States. Please let me know if you are able to take it or have someone who is willing to take it and care for it.

 Regards,

In addition to the D-274, Steinway & Sons offers a concert grand piano which, with its length of 227 cm, is ideal for smaller concert halls and stages as well as amateur musicians who desire the beauty and power of a concert grand piano at home. Thanks to its considerable range of sound and touch, the Steinway C-227 grand piano can unfold its full potential in generously proportioned living rooms.

Authorized by Steinway & Sons, the Steinway Model B grand piano is modelled after a Steinway B Grand Piano from Hamburg, known for its splendid and versatile character. Subtle refinements of the physical model contribute to a faithful rendering of the original instrument.

The piano that is modelled belongs to the Martha Argerich edition, a set of twenty-five Steinway & Sons Model B-211 pianos that the prestigious pianist carefully selected in 2014 for their musicality. She signed each.

The virtual grand piano Model B for Pianoteq was carefully designed to reproduce the finest sound characteristics of the Steinway B instrument that was selected by Modartt for this project. Subtle refinements of the physical modelling were made, resulting in a noticeably clear tone and astounding dynamics.

A Steinway deserves the ultimate in protection, and furthermore the ultimate in style. As with all furniture, outside of design, the quality of materials is what gives the product an elegant and professional look. That is why it is so important to go with an American manufacturer who uses quality fabric and craftsmanship.

For the ultimate in luxury, we recommend considering custom embroidery for your piano cover. For a small fee, we can add the Steinway piano logo to either the front where the keys are or side (above the leg on the sideboard, as shown above) of your cover. A great way to highlight your beautiful instrument, even when it's covered.

How to Determine the Model of a Steinway Piano:

You can find the model of your Steinway grand piano by looking at the letter stamped on the plate on the inside of the piano. It will be near the front, above the keys and fallboard. Located within a triangle, you should see a model letter (B, L, M, etc.), as well as the serial number. Please note the serial number will only tell you the year the piano was manufactured, not the model of the Steinway.

Over the years, the Steinway Model A has come in three different sizes: 6-1/2", 6'2" and 6'4-1/2". If you have a Model A, you will want to measure the length of your grand, to verify which size to order. You may find it easiest to measure from underneath your piano.

The foundation of a piano cover is the quality of the materials used. We have spent years working with American material suppliers, carefully reviewing and selecting the finest materials for their aesthetic appeal, protection, durability, and functionality. We are confident that we offer the highest-quality, most attractive fabric options on the market.

Side slits are designed to allow you to play the piano without having to take the entire cover off. Side Slits are put on each side of the piano cover, above the front legs. This allows the pianist to simply flip the front part of the cover back to play the piano, without having to completely remove the entire cover. This provides a seamless and convenient solution for those who require frequent access to their piano, without compromising on its protection. A very popular option, and added to the majority of covers.

For the ultimate look of luxury, we recommend custom embroidery for your piano cover. For an additional fee, we can embroider the piano brand logo on either the front of the cover above the keys, or on the right sideboard of the piano (located above the leg on the sideboard). A great way to highlight your beautiful instrument, even when it's covered. Embroidery comes standard in gold thread. Custom colors are available upon request.

Locking straps are a popular option when the piano is in an area where people will want to remove the cover and play it. The straps keep the cover in place, and act as an effective barrier against tampering. Many schools, hotels, resorts and churches add this option to ensure their piano stays safe and secure.

How do locking straps work? There are 3 straps sewn into the cover--one by each of the front legs and one at the back of the piano. The straps meet underneath the piano in the middle, forming a "Y" shape (note larger covers will use 4 straps, forming an "X" shape). At the end of each strap is a plastic D-ring. You turn one of the rings sideways and insert it through the other D-ring. When you turn it back, they will now be interconnected (as shown in the picture below). The cover is now securely on the piano, and the straps need to be disconnected in order to remove the cover and play. Note that if you need additional security, you can add a padlock to the D-rings, completely preventing someone from removing the cover without having the key to the padlock. ff782bc1db
