For more than 50 years, schools that integrate Junior Great Books materials and our inquiry-based approach to learning into their curriculum have been helping their students become independent readers and thinkers while enhancing the instructional skills of their teachers.

The Junior Great Books Nonfiction Inquiry program aligns with disciplinary core ideas of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and grade-level themes outlined by the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS).

NATURAL HISTORY SPINE. Nature Stories for Young ReadersĀ

ECOSYSTEM NATURE LORE. Among the Pond People (Term 1), Among the Forest People (Term 2), and Plant Life in Field and Garden (Term 3)

SPECIAL STUDY NATURE LORE. This varies from week to week. We do 4 special studies per term, and I check out individual books from the library to address these topics. However, since the special study topics are meant to be things we can walk outside our door and observe for ourselves in nature, the books are merely supplemental (but oh-so-good!).

*Please note: A lesson plan template is provided, but specific lesson plans are not supplied in this curriculum guide, as it is expected that these will be crafted by the teacher to suit his or her specific class context.

Ready Common Core Mathematics can be used as your core curriculum or to enhance your math instruction. Designed to develop strong mathematical thinkers, our math programs focus on conceptual understanding using real-world problem solving and help students become active participants in their own learning.

In English, the 7th grade curriculum emphasizes composition skills and helps students express themselves clearly and creatively in writing. The world history curriculum asks student to reflect and write about the people behind significant historic events. Art activities include art history, world music, pen and ink drawings, and collage. In Earth Science, students study Earth and its natural processes, phenomena, and interactions between systems. Students apply what they learn and observe in hands-on lab investigations and activities related to astronomy, geology, meteorology, and environmental science. The math curriculum prepares students for higher level math courses, and covers skills including simple and compound interest, signed numbers, graphing inequalities on a number line, probability in a series, third and fourth roots, and more.

The curriculum plan provides a high-level overview of the recommended sequencing and pacing. The curriculum map shows a detailed view of the scope and sequence of the modules for the grade level. The Trade Book Procurement List outlines the required trade books necessary to implement the curriculum.

Bullfrog at Magnolia Circle, one of the required trade books for Grade 3, Module 2, is only available from select sources in an edition reprinted for use with our curriculum. Please visit our How to Order page for information on contacting our partners, Open Up Resources or LearnZillion.

If you are beginning your homeschooling journey with Memoria Press in the fourth grade, we recommend that you complete the new user package. It will put you on course to move into our Fifth Grade Classical Core Curriculum next year.

These books are not included in the core curriculum package above but are used in the curriculum guide each week. You can purchase them for a discounted price through Memoria Press or find many of them at your local library.

We focus on geography in grades 3-6 in our Classical Core Curriculum because it is beneficial for students to know where the historical events they study take place in the context of each other. But grammar school years are a great time to introduce American history too. So we use these American biographies and novels as a supplement to our Classical Core package.

These books are not included in the core curriculum package at the top, but are used in the curriculum guide each week. You can purchase them for a discounted price through Memoria Press or find many of them at your local library.

Math Mammoth Skills Review Workbook, Grade 6 provides additional practice for the topics in Math Mammoth Grade 6 curriculum. I recommend you only purchase it once you are sure your student does need supplemental practice. Learn more.

In sixth grade, students encounter the beginnings of algebra, learning about algebraic expressions, one-variableequations and inequalities, integers, and ratios. We also review and deepen the students' understanding of rationalnumbers: both fractions and decimals are studied in depth, while percent is a new topic for 6th grade. Ingeometry, students learn to compute the area of various polygons, and also calculate volume and surface area ofvarious solids. The last major area of study is statistics, where students learn to summarize and describedistributions using both measures of center and variability.

Chapter 3 has to do with decimals. This is a long chapter, as we review all of decimal arithmetic, just using moredecimal digits than in 5th grade. Students also convert measuring units in this chapter.

Ratios (chapter 4) is a new topic for sixth grade. Students are already familiar with finding fractional parts from earlier grades, and now it is time to advance that knowledge into the study of ratios, which arise naturally from dividing aquantity into many equal parts. We study such topics as rates, unit rates, equivalent ratios, and problem solvingusing bar models.

Chapter 7 first presents a thorough review of fraction operations from 5th grade (addition, subtraction, and multiplication). The topic of focus in the chapter is fraction division. Students also do some problem solving with fractions.

In chapter 8, students are introduced to integers. They plot points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane and learn to add and subtract with negative numbers. Multiplication and division of integers are studied in 7th grade.

In geometry (chapter 9), the focus is on the area of polygons. This is studied in a logical progression: first, the area of right triangles, then the area of parallelograms, then, the area of triangles, and lastly the area of polygons. We also review some topics from earlier grades (quadrilaterals, triangles, perimeter, basic drawing). Other major topics in this chapter are calculating surface area of some solids using nets, and volume of rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths.

By purchasing any of the books, permission IS granted for the teacher (or parent) to reproduce this material to be used with his/her students in a teaching situation; not for commercial resale. However, you are not permitted to share the material with another teacher.

Teaching Textbooks is the award-winning homeschool math app that experts describe as beyond open and go. No other homeschool curriculum lifts the entire burden of math education off the parent. TT does this by

"The Yellow Book," as it's often called, provides 24-weeks of daily systematic phonological and phonemic awareness lessons for use in 1st and 2nd-grade classrooms. These lessons are short and engaging, designed to be the perfect supplement to an existing literacy curriculum.

The lessons in the revised 2022 edition of the English Primary Curriculum are quick and fast-paced, using a reduced number of words for each skill, in order to provide students with opportunities to build awareness and proficiency. The revised curriculum has 24-weeks of Tier 1 instruction, and 6 additional weeks of lessons for intervention instruction that can take place in whole group or small group settings. The lessons now include opportunities to make phoneme-grapheme connections, matching the sounds we hear to letters in print. QR codes provide easy access to hand motion videos and a weekly lesson demonstration video.

Through an intentional integration of digital resources, a focused approach to encouraging student discourse, and by connecting lessons to real-world math, students stay engaged in the learning. Get access to the curriculum.

A typical week in our curriculum will require around half an hour (or less) to prepare for. We suggest looking at the book and supply lists in the parent guide as soon as possible, and collecting your materials before the school year begins. Books can be ordered online, found in used book stores, or borrowed from the library. Be sure to print and bind the student notebooks before beginning. You can also simply put them into a three-ring binder.

Yes, you will need to add a math program to our second grade curriculum. We do not include a math program in our second grade offerings. Wild Math is a wonderful, nature-based option that we feel integrates well with our curriculum. Right Start and Singapore are also wonderful options.

Of course! You are free to add a favorite Bible study to our curriculum to make it work for your family. Blossom & Root was designed to make an early education that is rich in nature, the arts, and quality literature, accessible to ALL families.
