Student Career Development
The collection of career readiness lessons demonstrates my readiness to implement Student Career Development. These artifacts show I can engage students in career-related decision-making by teaching key employability skills like reliability, resourcefulness, integrity, and professionalism. Students explore these traits through discussion, reflection, collaboration, and hands-on activities that simulate real-world scenarios. For example, they apply soft skills in creating sales pitches, planning meals with limited resources, and evaluating personal behaviors that impact career success. These experiences help students build personalized understandings of workplace expectations and support informed career planning. I will apply these strategies in my STS program by continuing to develop interactive lessons that connect directly to workforce readiness, encourage problem-solving, and expose students to career-related competencies that align with labor market needs and postsecondary pathways.
My unit plan demonstrates my readiness to implement Student Career Development by providing students with structured, skill-based learning that mirrors real-world technical careers. This artifact shows I support career planning and decision-making by tracking student progress on drafting competencies, reinforcing the importance of precision, responsibility, and attention to detail—core traits in design and manufacturing fields. The spreadsheet helps personalize student learning through performance monitoring, ensuring each student has access to timely feedback and opportunities to improve. It also reflects workforce expectations as students complete tasks tied to industry-relevant standards. I will continue applying this approach in my STS program by integrating career-specific skills tracking into other technical courses, using performance data to guide student growth, and providing students with insights into how classroom learning connects directly to postsecondary education and high-demand careers.
