Access & Equity
My Comprehensive Needs Assessment demonstrates my understanding of Access and Equity. Specifically, my needs assessment shows that all students have equal access to program information and opportunities, regardless of their background, by translating all of the dual credit course lectures with Spanish subtitles. Secondly, by acknowledging the language barrier, and working to remove the barrier, the program environment is free from bias and discrimination, ensuring all students feel welcome and supported, and provides accommodation and support to ensure all students can succeed, especially where they currently are struggling. Lastly, the program offers a range of support services to ensure all students have the resources they need to succeed, by offering another form of translation to students. I will apply these ideas to my future STS program supporting all students fairly and equally.
My job with Boys and Girls Club of Lincoln North Star demonstrates my understanding of Access and Equity. At Boys and Girls Club (BGC) every student has equal access to program information and opportunities, regardless of their background because we believe safety, knowledge, and fun should be available to everyone. Specifically, my program will actively recruit students from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented groups, because I have been trained to let anyone know about the opportunities we have to offer. My time at BGC shows that I am able to create a program environment that is free from bias and discrimination, ensuring all students feel welcome and supported because of the courses I have taken and implemented. Lastly, my program will offer a range of support services to ensure all students have the resources they need to succeed, as my job with BGC has prepared me in my work with students from all backgrounds, races, religions, and cultures. I will apply these ideas to my future STS program by ensuring all my students have what they need to succeed.
