Work Based Learning
My Kimmel Grant Engineering Journal demonstrates my Work-Based Learning (WBL) understanding. Specifically, it provides students with opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings. It does this by having the students learn about the engineering design process and use it to solve a problem like the engineer guest speaker. My Kimmel Grant Engineering Journal also shows I am able to conduct WBL in a safe and supervised environment, with clear guidelines and procedures in place. This is shown through the clear directions and the safety rules the students had to follow throughout the day, especially during the competition. Lastly, my Grant Journal shows I am able to provide appropriate support and guidance to students through their WBL experiences, as it includes clear directions but also allows students to ask questions and look for help. I will apply these ideas to my STS program by creating safe and purposeful WBL opportunities for my students.
My career lesson plans demonstrate my Work-Base Learning (WBL) understanding. Specifically, the lesson plans show that WBL experiences are aligned with individual student learning goals and career aspirations by helping them work on the soft skills required to be successful in any workplace. In addition, my career lesson plans provide appropriate support and guidance to students throughout their WBL experiences because they will be using the skills learned throughout the lessons and goals created to guide their experiences. I will apply these ideas to my STS program by continuing to develop my career curriculum and tailor it to each student so they can get the most out of WBL.
