My name is Grace, and I'm an educator in academic libraries. Currently, I work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as an Assistant Professor and the Student Success Librarian for Online Pedagogy. I have a BA in English from Western Kentucky University and an MLIS from the University of Denver. I'm currently in the coursework phase of a PhD in Adult Learning.
I'm invested in understanding how learning happens in information literacy instruction and why we teach the way we do. I value intentionally and thoughtfully creating learning opportunities for students. I think it's important to consider how and why we do things, and I bring those values to my work as a teacher, researcher, and coworker.
As a teacher, I firmly believe in honoring students' experiences and meeting students where they are. I want them to think about information in broader contexts, but I also want to help them meet their immediate information needs. I try to create authentic and active learning experiences in the classroom, and I believe in co-creating knowledge.
My current research focuses on sharing personal processes, applying digital scholarship methods to online learning assessment, and understanding early-career students' conceptions of foundational research concepts.
