PRIVACY POLICY FOR DESERT NAVIGATOR LITE
Last updated: [29-08-2026]
This privacy policy explains what Desert Navigator Lite ("the app") does with information when you use it. The app is published by [YOUR NAME OR COMPANY] ("we", "us"). If you have questions about anything here, contact us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL].
By installing or using the app you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
SUMMARY
Desert Navigator Lite is an offline navigation tool. Your saved positions, recorded trips, settings and any photos you attach stay on your phone. We do not operate a server, we have no account system, and we never receive your location.
The app does use services provided by Google for advertising, for crash reporting, for anonymous usage statistics, and for showing your recorded trips on a map. Those services collect information of their own, and this policy explains what and why.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE ONLY
The following is created by you and stored only in the app's private storage on your phone. It is not uploaded anywhere by us:
Your current and past GPS positions, including latitude, longitude, altitude, accuracy, speed and heading. Saved positions and waypoints, including any name, category or note you give them. Recorded trips, including the route, distance, duration and start point. Any photograph you choose to attach to a saved position. Your app settings, such as units of measurement, language, theme, arrival radius and direction source.
This information is removed when you delete it in the app or when you uninstall the app. We cannot access it, restore it, or delete it for you, because we never receive it.
LOCATION PERMISSION
The app requests permission to access your precise location. This is the core function of the app: it is used to show where you are, to calculate the direction and distance to a destination, to draw the arrow, and to record a trip if you start one.
Location is used while the app is in use. If you start recording a trip, the app runs a foreground service with a permanent notification so that recording continues while the screen is off or while you are in another app. That notification is always visible while recording, and recording stops when you stop it.
The app does not request background location access, and it cannot access your location when it is not running or recording.
Your location is not transmitted to us. It is used on the device and stored on the device.
INFORMATION COLLECTED BY THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The app includes services operated by Google. These services collect information directly, according to their own privacy policies, and we do not control what they collect.
Google AdMob is used to show advertising, which is how the app is funded. AdMob may collect and process your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device type and operating system, coarse location derived from your IP address, and information about the adverts you see and interact with. This is used to select adverts, to measure their performance, and to limit how often the same advert is shown. Depending on your consent choices and your region, adverts may be personalised or non-personalised.
Google User Messaging Platform is used to ask for and record your advertising consent where the law requires it, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and certain United States states. It stores your consent choices on your device and communicates them to Google's advertising and analytics services.
Google Analytics for Firebase collects anonymous statistics about how the app is used, such as how often it is opened, which screens are visited, session length, device model, operating system version, language and country. This helps us understand which features are used and where the app should be improved. It does not receive your GPS coordinates, your saved positions, or your recorded trips.
Firebase Crashlytics collects information when the app crashes or behaves unexpectedly, such as the type of error, the sequence of code that produced it, the device model, the operating system version, the amount of free memory and storage, and whether the app was in the foreground. This is used only to find and fix faults. It does not receive your GPS coordinates, your saved positions, or your recorded trips.
Google Maps SDK for Android is used to draw a finished trip on satellite imagery. When you open the map view, Google receives the information necessary to serve map tiles, which may include the area you are viewing and your IP address. This is optional to the app's purpose: if there is no internet connection or no map available, the app draws your trip from your own recorded positions instead, entirely offline.
You can read those services' policies here: Google Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy, Google AdMob and advertising at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and Firebase data handling at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
WHY WE PROCESS INFORMATION, AND ON WHAT LEGAL BASIS
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases are as follows.
We process your location on the device to provide the navigation function you asked for, which is necessary to perform the service you requested. We process advertising and analytics information on the basis of your consent, which we ask for through the consent form shown when you first open the app. We process crash information on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working correctly and safely.
Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect processing that already took place.
YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
You can change or withdraw your advertising consent at any time from the app's Settings screen, using the privacy options entry there. This reopens the same consent form and updates your choices.
You can reset or delete your advertising identifier in your device settings, under Google, Ads. You can also choose to opt out of advert personalisation there.
You can delete any saved position or recorded trip inside the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all data the app has stored on your device.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to personal data held about you, to request its correction or deletion, to object to or restrict processing, to receive a copy of it in a portable format, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because we hold no personal data on any server of ours, most such requests must be made to Google as the operator of the services described above. If you contact us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL] we will help you direct the request.
If you are a resident of California or another United States state with similar law, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information. The consent form shown in the app allows you to control advertising choices applicable to your state.
DATA TRANSFERS
The third-party services described above are operated by Google and may process information on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Google states that it uses approved transfer mechanisms for such transfers. We do not carry out any transfers ourselves, because we do not receive your data.
DATA RETENTION
Data stored on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. Data collected by Google's advertising, analytics and crash reporting services is retained according to Google's own retention periods, which are described in their policies linked above.
SECURITY
Data created in the app is held in the app's private storage area, which other applications on your device cannot read. No transmission or storage method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Because we hold nothing on a server of ours, there is no account of yours for us to lose.
CHILDREN
The app is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will assist in having it removed from the relevant service.
NAVIGATION IS NOT A SAFETY GUARANTEE
This is not a privacy matter, but it belongs alongside it. Desert Navigator Lite is an aid, not a substitute for proper preparation, local knowledge, a paper map and a compass. GPS accuracy varies with your device, satellite reception, weather and surroundings, and a magnetic compass can be affected by nearby metal and electronics. Do not rely on this app alone in remote areas.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy when the app changes or when the law requires it. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be reflected in the app's store listing. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
