Thank you for visiting our page! Gore Cat Rescue is a registered charity (number CC61036) run by a group of local volunteers and cat lovers. Our purpose is to serve our local community by:
Reducing the stray cat population in the Gore District by rescuing, socialising, and desexing stray cats in preparation for rehoming;
Desexing and rehoming surrendered cats.
Our aim is to help unwanted cats & kittens find their forever homes! 🐈 We do not have a dedicated facility, so cats/kittens are fostered by volunteers in their homes until they are adopted.
"Saving one cat won't change the world, but for that one pet its world will change forever" 💛🩷
Following us on social media is a great way to support our charity! Like and share our posts so that we reach more people, which helps us to find loving forever homes for the cats and kittens in our care.
To view our current cats & kittens available for adoption, please head to our Facebook page or click the below link:
Our Facebook page is updated regularly with which cats & kittens are ready for adoption. If you see a cat or kitten that you are interested in adopting, please contact us via private message on Messenger or send us an email and we will send you the adoption application form.
We do have a process for applying for a cat or kitten with us. We as a committee will assess your application along with any others received for the same animal and assess which we think would be not only the best person but the best home for our little fluff ball.
Please note, if you are renting your home and we consider approving your application we will need to either speak to your landlord or have written consent that you are allowed to have a cat or kitten in your home.
We do strive to match people with cats or kittens when they apply, which means if you are not successful for a certain cat or kitten but we think you would suit another, we will let you know (it's a little like online dating, trying to make the perfect match!).
Adoption Fees
Our adoption fee is $160 per cat/kitten and we don't re-home them until they have been desexed, microchipped & registered on the Companion Animal Register, had at least their first vaccination and flea and worm treated. We also undertake any other vet care required and won't re-home them until we absolutely sure they are well and ready for their new home.
Barn/Shed Cats
From time to time, we do have some cats & kittens that we deem not suitable to be placed as a family pet. These cats & kittens become what we know as "Barn/Shed Cats", which would suit living out their lives on a farm or rural property. They will make great mice and rat catchers and maybe over time become used to their owners. Barn/Shed cats are desexed and there is no charge (however if you would like to make a donation we would really appreciate it).
If you would like to make a donation, our charity bank account is:
Account name: Gore Cat Rescue
Account number: 06-0925-0897235-00
Please put "Donation" in the reference field. You can claim tax back on any donation over $5 with the IRD. If you would like a receipt for your donation please private message us on Messenger or send us an email and we will arrange a receipt for you.
We are also looking for anyone who is interested in:
Fostering cats and kittens.
Regularly donating food/kitty litter - we have a donation bin at New World in Gore or items can be dropped at House of Travel Gore, 82 Main Street, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, just ask for Kelly.
Donating items for our foster kids (pictured below). Contact us to find out which items we need more of.
If you have had dumped or stray kittens on your property or know of any and need to trap them we have a limited supply of live animal traps. These are human traps and easy to set. Before you trap a kitten, please make sure you contact us to ensure we have a foster available to take the kitten/s in. Please note, we do charge a $50 cash bond on trap hire. Once the trap is returned to us the bond will be returned to you. We will ask you to sign a Trap Bond Agreement form to ensure we have your contact details.
Once you drop off a cat or kitten/s to us, we will require you to complete a Surrender Agreement Form, to formally place to animals in our care. We will then look after, tame and socilalise them, have all relevant vet work completed before advertising them for adoption.
We do have set criteria that must be met in order for us to assist with TNR, so please reach out to us today to see if we can help.
