Navigate the app using the buttons on the bottom of the screen.
Before entering scores, you must (in order):
Add a player
Add a course
Add a scorecard to the course. If you want to track your handicap, you must add the slope and course rating to the scorecard. If you're playing simulator rounds on GSPro, you can find most of the slope/course ratings at https://simulatorgolftour.com/courses/
Once you have a player, course, and scorecard, you can start adding rounds and tracking your statistics!
Handicap Calculations
Handicap is calculated using the World Handicapping System method (which the USGA falls under).
Only courses with a slope rating between 55-155 are included.
Only completed rounds are included.
The differential for each round is calculated using the formula (Score - Course Rating) × 113 ÷ Slope Rating.
A set of the best differentials are averaged to generate your handicap, based on either how many rounds have been played in one of two ways. If you set "Follow WHS rules for rounds to use" to "off", it uses the number of rounds you select. If you set "Follow WHS rules for rounds to use" to "on" (recommended), it uses:
For 3 or fewer rounds: average of 1 best differential for those rounds
For 4 - 6 rounds: average of 2 best differentials for those rounds
For 7 - 9 rounds: average of 3 best differentials for those rounds
For 10 - 12 rounds: average of 4 best differentials for those rounds
For 13 - 15 rounds: average of 5 best differentials for those rounds
For 16-17 rounds: average of 6 best differentials for those rounds
For 18-19 rounds: average of 7 best differentials for those rounds
For 20+ rounds: average of 8 best differentials for the last 20 rounds
The USGA used to apply the "excellence factor" (multiply the final average by 0.96), but this is no longer done under the WHS handicapping system, so I don't do it either.
What does the search button on the course name do?
The search button takes the name you've entered and queries Open Street Map (using their free API) to try find the location of the course. It first tries with the name you entered, and if no results are returned, tries again with "golf" appended to the name. It's a bit...hit and miss, quite honestly. If it works, it's helpful, but I will be the first to admit it probably finds the right location less than 50% of the time. If you have a better method, let me know!
How can I track real rounds and sim rounds separately?
Right now rounds are associated with a player, and I didn't want to go through the complexity of adding a "sim round / real round" toggle and then filter the statistics on that. I simply have added two players ("Paul K (sim)" and "Paul K (IRL)") then use those to track my sim and real rounds. That way I can look at stats for all players, or just at stats for my sim or IRL rounds.
