The PIT maneuver (precision immobilization technique) is a pursuit tactic in which a pursuing vehicle forces a fleeing vehicle to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control and stop.

Pursuing units shall allow the PIT-certified officer to assume the lead position in the pursuit.
Use of the PIT is not considered a vehicle crash.
