There’s just something about buzzer-beaters and the Chicago Bulls that Stephen Curry finds appealing. For the second time this season, Curry nailed a jumper at the buzzer, this time propelling the Warriors to a 108-106 over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. The win marked the end of Golden State’s five-game road trip in which the Warriors went 4-1.
Curry finished the game with 32 points, eight rebounds and six assists, becoming the second player in NBA history to score 30 or more points and make four or three-point field goals in at least nine straight games. Curry’s game-winning jumper just inside the three-point line capped off a 12-point quarter. Alec Burks, who scored 16 points of his own in the fourth, including the team’s first 12, finished with 32 points, the most points he has scored since March 13, 2014 when he was a member of the Jazz. It was just the third time in his career he has scored more than 30 points.
Golden State entered the fourth quarter trailing by eight, but quickly raced on top when Burks hit a pair of open three-point field goals before converting two and-1s to put the Warriors on top. The teams traded buckets, with Golden State taking a two-point lead with a minute left before Kris Dunn (24 points, four rebounds, eight assists) tied it up. After the Warriors missed a go-ahead opportunity with 30 seconds to play, the Bulls raced up the court with a chance at the lead.
Draymond Green (four points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) locked up LaVine, forcing a miss and pulling down the rebound. A timeout gave the Warriors the ball with 2.5 seconds left, as Curry nailed the game-winning jumper over Dunn.
The 32 points for Burks is a welcome surprise following his recent struggles. Burks has been a key to the Warrior attack, averaging 10.4 points per game, fourth on the team behind Curry, D’Angelo Russell and Green.
The Warriors get the weekend off before hosting the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. The Grizzlies game marks the first of eight home games over the next three weeks.
