If the first quarter of the Warriors’ Wednesday night meeting in Charlotte was going to be any indication, defense and hot shooting would decide the outcome. Hot shooting and tough defense gave the Hornets an early 42-30 lead. However, fortunately for the Warriors, it wouldn’t be Charlotte who enjoyed the relentless defense and timely shooting.
After allowing 42 points in the first quarter, the Warriors held Charlotte to just 56 points the rest of the game, including just 22 points in the second and third quarters combined, en route to a 126-98 victory.
Draymond Green registered his second triple-double of the season, pulling down 16 rebounds to go with 12 assists and 10 rebounds, while Jordan Poole set a new career high with six steals. Stephen Curry extended his streak of consecutive games with four or more three point field-goals to eight games, finishing with 38 points, two rebounds and four assists.
D’Angelo Russell finished with 20 points, the sixth straight game he has scored 20 or more.
Charlotte came out of the gates hot, shooting 69 percent in the first quarter, building a 12-point lead despite the Warriors connecting on 55 percent of their own field goal attempts. The second and third quarters would prove much different. The Warriors held Charlotte to 4-for-22 shooting (18 percent) in the second, then 4-for-28 (14 percent) in the third, flipping the 12-point deficit into a 30-point lead.
Golden State went on 24-0 runs in both the second and third quarters, keeping Charlotte scoreless for a stretch of nearly nine minutes in the second and more than six minutes in the third.
Poole's 14 points and six steals off the bench led a productive night for the Warrior reserves. Eric Paschall continued to be productive, scoring 10 points with four rebounds and a pair of assists while Omari Spellman drained a pair of threes. Kevon Looney, Alec Burks and Marquese Chriss combined for 16 of the Warriors 52 team rebounds.
Golden State plays the fifth and final game of the roadtrip on Friday night in Chicago.
