For all the offensive firepower of Stephen Curry, the Warriors star point guard couldn't do quite enough as the Warriors fell to the Los Angeles Lakers 113-112 on Wednesday night. In a back-and-forth game that saw more than 25 lead changes, a pivotal dunk by LeBron James with 13 seconds left would serve as the game-winner. A Curry jumper fell short at the buzzer.
Curry, who finished with (BOX SCORE) sparked the Warrior offense early, pouring in 32 points in the first half as the Warriors took a two-point advantage into the break. Curry forced the Laker defense into double-teams, freeing up D'Angelo Russell (17 points) and Alec Burks (12 points) for open looks in the second half. As the Warriors worked to bottle up James and Anthony Davis, Curry's offensive explosion, including 6-for-12 shooting on three-point field goals, kept the Warriors close.
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers threatend multiple times to pull away, but the Warriors kept it close. Drawing a double team above the three point line, Curry found Burks in the corner for two open threes, both of which cut four point deficits down to one. Burks, who scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, was pivotal as the Lakers attempted to swarm Curry. But despite the increased pressure, Curry attacked the rim relentlessly, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter and making 15 trips to the free throw line, making 14 of them.
Russell also found success attacking the basket. Despite shooting 7-for-20 from the floor, Russell went 8-f0r-10 from the free throw line.
The Warriors return to San Francisco to host the Boston Celtics on Friday night.
