In a game characterized by runs, the Warriors came up on the short end of the game's deciding one en route to a 117-107 loss to the Utah Jazz, snapping an eight-game winning streak. Stephen Curry scored 29 points for the Warriors and D'Angelo Russell added 17 points and nine assists, but it wouldn't be enough.
After a Russell jumper put the Dubs on top 76-75 late in the third, the Jazz went on a 10-0 run and eventually went into the fourth quarter up 89-81. A pair of threes from Donovan Mitchell (32 points) were key to the Jazz run.
While the Warrior offense managed 24 trips to the foul line, Rudy Gobert patrolled the paint, gathering a season-high 21 rebounds to boost the Jazz offense, including seven offensive boards.
Alec Burks had another effective game for the Warriors off the bench, scoring 13 points and nailing three three-point field goals. Marquese Chriss had a season-high 12 points on 5-for-6 shooting, nine of which came in the first quarter when the Warriors built a 32-20 lead.
The Jazz's new-look backcourt of Mitchell and Mike Conley (18 points, 10 assists) helped dictate the offense and defense in the second and third quarters, where the Jazz outscored the Dubs 70-49. Gobert added 21 points on 9-for-10 shooting as the Jazz outscored the Warriors 64-42 in the paint and held the Warriors to just eight made three-point field goals on 25 attempts (32%).
The Warriors head south to Los Angeles to face the Lakers for the first time during the regular season on Wednesday night.
