In an up and down matchup, the Warriors failed to get in a consistent grove on the offensive side of the ball. Typically, this can lead to disaster. But on Monday night, the Warriors defense, as it has done consistently during the team's five-game winning streak, remained constant en route to an 85-80 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. The win gave the Warriors a perfect 4-0 record during their latest homestand as they depart the friendly confines of Chase Center to face the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
Willie Cauley-Stein produced the best game of his Warrior career, tying a career high with 18 rebounds and 15 points while matched up against Hassan Whiteside. Since returning to the Warrior lineup against the Phoenix Suns, Cauley-Stein is 19-for-23 from the floor, including a season-high 7-for-10 on Monday for 15 points.
Stephen Curry again led the Warriors in scoring, as he has all season, with 26 points, five rebounds and seven assits on 4-for-9 shooting from three point range.
While the Warriors offense struggled to convert on the offensive end, the defensive continued to roll on. Golden State held the Trail Blazers to 35-for-86 (40.6%) shooting from the floor and just 4-22 (18%) from beyond the arc and held a 18-7 advantage in free throw attempts.
The win sends the Warriors to 5-2 and in the middle of a competitive Western Conference. Up next is a meeting in Houston with the 6-1 Rockets, tied atop the Western Conference standings.
