The NBA announced the finalists for the season awards today. Headlining the list were the finalists for the KIA NBA MVP award. Stephen Curry, who directed the Warriors to an NBA-best 68-14 record, was among the five finalists, joined by the 2019 KIA NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, the 2018 MVP James Harden and LeBron James.
Curry, who set the NBA record for threes in a single season with 415, finished the season with averages of 35.5 points, 6.2 rebound and 7.0 assists per game. His 35.5 points per game is the ninth highest in NBA history, joining WIlt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, James Harden, Kobe Bryant and Rick Barry as the only players in NBA history to eclipse the 35 point per game mark. He also set a new high in three point field goals, finishing with 415 to pass his previous record of 402. He ended the campaign with 23 40-point games, ninth most in NBA history, and 5 50-point games, 10th most. His total 2,876 total points were the seventh most in NBA history.
The Warriors’ Jaylen Brown was also named a finalist for the Most Improved Player award. Brown finished the season averaging 19.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Since being traded to the Warriors in February, Brown averaged 25.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists on 54.6 percent shooting from the floor and 46.5 percent from deep to go along with 1.3 steals.
