Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are firmly in place as the Splash Brothers, but the more Jaylen Brown plays alongside Curry, the more he is looking like at least a Splash Second Cousin. Brown had 22 second half points, including four three-point field goals, to go alongside Curry’s 28 and four triples of his own, as the Warriors beat the Pistons 140-106.
Curry finished the night with 45 points, two rebounds and four assists while shooting 6-for-14 from deep and 18-for-32 from the floor. Brown added 27 points, three boards, four assists and four steals, with all four of his threes coming in the second half.
Kris Dunn had 22 points of his own, 12 of which came from the free throw line as he went 12-for-12, a new career-high for both made free throws and attempts.
Draymond Green finished the night with 22 rebounds, tying his career-high which he sent in December against the Atlanta Hawks.
A back-and-forth first half sent the game into a deadlock at the midway point, with the Warriors shooting just 14 percent from three-point range and were outscored 30-9 in the paint. The Warriors then began attacking in the third quarter, getting to the line 13 times in the frame, going a perfect 13-for-13.
Glenn Robinson III (16 points, four assists) kicked off the second half with a three, giving the Warriors a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Curry then began a 7-0 run that gave the Warriors all the breathing room they would need, as they built the lead to as many as 12 in the quarter before heading to the fourth with a 10-point edge.
Luke Kennard drained a three early in the fourth, cutting the lead to just six, but the Pistons would be unable to get any closer as Ky Bowman (10 points, two rebounds, two assists) scored four quick points. Near the midway point in the quarter, Blake Griffin was able to cut the lead to nine points, but Curry would fire off a 7-0 run of his own to put the game out of reach.
Golden State heads to New York on Saturday to face the Knicks in the final game of the five-game road trip and the second night of a back-to-back.
