A disappointing first quarter and a competitive second didn’t necessarily foreshadow a dominant third quarter, but it came anyway. The Warriors blasted the Pacers on both ends of the floor in third, outscoring them 42-9 to lead the way to a 102-88 win on Wednesday night in Indianapolis.
Stephen Curry led the Warrior attack, scoring 32 points with nine rebounds and nine assists. Jaylen Brown had 21 points, three rebounds and Kris Dunn scored 21 points, his highest scoring total since joining the Warriors and the most since he had 26 points on March 20, 2019 as a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Golden State did allow 15 second chance points, normally a bad sign as all 12 Warrior losses have come when they have been outscored in second chance opportunities. Instead, the Warriors dominated the free throw line, owning a 18-2 advantage in made free throws.
Though the first half struggles for both teams resulted in a one-point Pacer advantage, the Warriors pieced together their patented third quarter explosion to break the game open. Draymond Green bottomed a three to start the quarter, flipping the one-point deficit into a two point Warrior lead, their first of the game and a lead they would not relinquish.
Green followed that by hitting a deep jumper, kicking off a 20-2 run as part of the dominant quarter in which the Warriors shot 85 percent from the floor while allowing the Pacers to shoot just 27 percent. Key to the Warrior run was their ability to score in transition as they racked up 16 fast break points after having just six in the entire first half. Curry and Brown each tallied 10 points for the Warriors in the third, while Green and Dunn had seven a piece.
The Warriors play the fourth game of their five-game road trip, and their first of a back-to-back in Detroit on Friday night.
