With 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, the Warriors had little to show. Staring at a 16-point deficit, the Warriors league-leading offense had struggled relentlessly. Turnovers, defensive breakdowns, and a putrid shooting performance had all culminated in a disheartening performance, one that seemed likely to send the Warriors to their 12th loss of the season.
Having lost Draymond Green in the first half as a result of a pair of Flagrant Fouls and in desperate need of a spark, the Dubs turned to their latest addition and difference maker, Jaylen Brown. Brown kicked off a game-changing 21-0 run with an explosive dunk over Jahlil Okafor, part of a 40-18 fourth quarter, as the Warriors rallied from a 20-point third quarter deficit to defeat the New Orleans Pelicans 121-108.
Brown, who finished with a team-high 28 points, scored 16 of the team’s next 21 points, including an encore dunk over Brandon Ingram, while Stephen Curry (27 points, eight rebounds, eight assists) added five points as the Dubs held the Pelicans scoreless for eight minutes. By the time Jrue Holiday’s layup found the bottom of the net with 2:22 to play, the Warriors had turned the 16-point hole into a three-point cushion, one they would not relinquish.
Golden State, who entered the fourth quarter having shot 36 percent, went 15-for-27 in the final frame, with 27 of their 40 points coming in the paint.
The Warriors host Pacific Division-rival Sacramento on Tuesday in the third game of their four-game homestand.
