The Warriors rallied from an early 10-point deficit but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 124-116 to the Lakers in overtime on Saturday, ending the team’s 15-game winning streak, the third longest winning-streak in franchise history.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors in scoring with 40 points while Jaylen Brown had 30 points and 14 rebounds. Ed Davis had 16 rebounds for the Warriors.
Golden State fell behind by 10 after the first quarter and kept the deficit there entering halftime. The Warriors began clawing back into the game, cutting the deficit to just three points entering the fourth quarter before tying the game with under two minutes to play.
The teams swapped leads in the fourth quarter before the Lakers pushed the lead to three. The Warriors had a chance to tie the game with under 30 seconds play but Curry’s three-point attempt bounced out.
While the Warriors are still looking up at the Lakers in the standings, they have not been outplayed by the league’s best team in two matchups. In the first matchup, the Warriors fell 114-113 on a last second dunk by LeBron James.
Golden State wraps up their two-game homestand on Monday night when they host the Miami Heat.
