After the Utah Jazz ended an eight-game Warrior winning streak in November, the Jazz looked to repeat the feat in January in Golden State. This time, however, Stephen Curry sunk a layup with 18 seconds to play, sealing a 118-117 win and extending the Dubs’ longest winning streak of the season.
Curry ended the game with 40 points, four rebounds and four assists while D’Angelo Russell compiled a 14-point, 12-assist double-double. Alec Burks added 17 points for the Warriors as they continue to their pursuit of the Los Angeles Lakers for the top seed in the Western Conference (2.0 games behind).
Golden State built a 38-21 lead after the first quarter, only to watch the Jazz slowly chip away. In the fourth quarter, the Jazz comeback made it all the way. After Eric Paschall (10 points, eight rebounds, two assists) bottomed a three-point field goal to make it 74-70 with 2:38 to play, the Jazz ripped off an 8-0 run to go up 78-74.
The Warriors responded quickly, pulling within one with less than a minute to play. A defensive stop gave the Dubs an opportunity for the lead, which Curry capitalized on, using a Green screen to attack the rim and make the game-winning layup despite heavy contention from Ed Davis.
Golden State will look to win their tenth straight game on Friday against Indiana.
