The Golden State Warriors began the second half of the season the same way the left the first half, downing the Dallas Mavericks 132-122 on an historic night for Stephen Curry. Curry, who finished the game with 55 points, nine rebounds, 18 assists while making eight three-point field goals, became the first player in NBA history to compile such a stat line.
One game after setting the NBA record for margin of victory in a 128-58 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry electrified the Warrior attack, which saw six players score in double-figures, the third consecutive game Golden State has accomplished that.
Glenn Robinson III finished with 16 points and six rebounds, D’Angelo Russell had 12 points, four rebounds and six assists, Eric Paschall tallied 11 points and Willie Cauley-Stein had 10 points along with three blocks. Alec Burks finished with 15 points, the ninth straight game he has scored in double-figures.
Golden State and Dallas played to a deadlock in the first half, with a late Curry three sending the teams into the break tied at 60. Curry then took over in the third quarter, collecting a double-double in the third quarter alone with 12 points, five rebounds and 12 assists in the frame as the Warriors outscored the Mavericks 38-24. The Warrior defense locked up as well, holding Dallas to 25 percent shooting (7-for-28) in the quarter.
Curry continued to roll offensively in the fourth, scoring 18 points in the final frame as the Warriors held off any ideas the Mavericks had of a comeback.
The Warriors will be greeted by the Denver Nuggets (20-17) on Thursday night in a tilt between a pair of Western Conference playoff contenders.
