The Golden State Warriors set a new NBA record Sunday night in Memphis with the largest margin of victory in league history, outscoring the Grizzlies by 70 in a 128-58 triumph. The previous high of 68 points was set by the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 148-80 victory over the Miami Heat on December 17, 1991.
The win caps an impressive four-game week for the Warriors, in which they defeated the Sacramento Kings 136-90 on Monday, a 123-112 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday and a 116-93 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. The 46-point margin of victory against the Kings had been the largest margin of victory for the Warriors this season.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists on 11-for-14 shooting in just 27 minutes of action. In total, seven Warriors scored in double-figures, the most players to score 10 or more points in a game this season.
Given an opportunity for increased playing time, the Warriors’ bench unit did not disappoint, scoring 76 points, including outscoring the Grizzlies 34-8 in the fourth quarter. Alec Burks led all bench players with 15 points, as well as three rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Eric Paschall (16 points, eight rebounds) Alen Smailagic (12 points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks), Jacob Evans III (11 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals) and Jordan Poole (10 points, two assists also hit double-figures off the bench.
Omari Spellman, enjoying a resurgant year in The Bay, set a new career-high with 12 rebounds.
The Warriors return home to the Chase Center on Tuesday night to face the Dallas Mavericks (14-25) in the first of three straight home games.
