ROBIN HOOD
ROBIN HOOD
The Original Production
Robin Hood is a comic opera with music by Reginald De Koven and a libretto by Harry B. Smith. The opera premiered at the Chicago Opera House on June 9 1890, produced by The Bostonians Company. The show toured before opening at Broadway's Standard Theatre on September 22, 1891. The Broadway run included a new song for Jessie B Davis entitled "Oh Promise Me," (with lyrics by Clement Scott and from the show's London transfer.) The song became a smash hit of the show. A sequel for the show was produced at the Chestnut Street Opera House in Philadelphia on November 4 1901, entitled Maid Marian. The show was since revived on Broadway seven times between 1900 -1944.
