The Original Production
The opera; The Strange Adventures of Jack and the Beanstalk was first presented in New Haven Connecticut, on October 25, 1896. It toured New England before opening at New York's Casino Theatre on November 2, 1896. The opera moved to Broadway on November 24-26 1898, at the Lyceum Theatre, with a return engagement in 1899, & 1900. In 1919 the Navy toured the show with an all male cast, this meant men dressed as women. The show had two major revivals at Boston's Castle Square Theatre (later renamed to Arlington Theatre) in 1910, and 1921.
