University of Memphis Piano Festival

The Memphis Keyboard Festival was held October 20-22 under the direction of University Faculty Drs.Cathal Breslin and Artina McCain. The Festival kicked off with concert featuring a variety of solo and multi-hand repertoire performed by Drs. Breslin and McCain joined by Dr. Jasmin Arakawa of the University of Florida, Dr. Cahill Smith of Lee University and Rochelle Sennet of the University of Illinois.

GMMTA President Laura Triplett was able to attend Dr. Kevin Richmond's lecture/recital on "George Crumb's Eine Kleine Nacht Musik-Ruminations on 'Round Midnight' by Thelonious Monk." Having attended the final concert featuring winners of the Festival Competition, Ms. Triplett says that "One of the most rewarding parts of the weekend was an exceptional prizewinners' concert with 16 talented young pianists, all aged from 11 to 30-something."
