PARENT TIPS
If you have a concern to discuss with the coach, please follow this procedure:
Have the athlete speak with her coach first.
Have the parent contact the coach involved to discuss the issue. The parent will need to call the coach to set up a meeting a minimum of 24 hours after this initial reaction so that time can be set aside to give the situation undivided attention.
Have the parent contact Coach Mel to discuss the issue.
Please DO NOT attempt to speak to a coach on an issue before or after a contest or practice. Discussions at this time can be emotional for both the parent and the coach and will not promote a resolution.
Appropriate concerns to discuss with the coaches:
The treatment of your child - mentally or physically
Ways to help your child improve
Concerns about child's behavior
It is very difficult to accept that your daughter is not playing as much as you may have hoped. Coaches are professionals. They make decisions based upon their knowledge of the sport and upon what is best for the team. Playing time is not guaranteed. This is one of the key reasons we will keep stats, both in games and practices. Playing time is based on attitude, aptitude, and athleticism, just like tryouts. However, we add one other key component - attendance. If players miss practice, their playing time will be adjusted.
Issue not appropriate to discuss with coaches:
Play time
Team strategy
Play calling
Other athletes
Please remember to have "Respect for the Absent!" Meaning, that if a coach or another athlete is not present to discuss or defend themselves, then a conversation about them is meaningless and should not take place.
LETTERING REQUIREMENTS - VARSITY ONLY
An athlete must participate in `50% of the varsity games (not matches) to earn a letter. For example, there are 23 required varsity matches. IF varsity plays all five games per match of the 23, that is 115 games. An athlete would need to play ~57 games to letter.
