Gloria Dei

Lutheran Church

Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Norma Johnson

Greetings,

I am currently serving as interim pastor here at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. It is a joy and a privilege to serve this loving congregation with such a viable presence here in South Knoxville.

I am a native of upstate New York and was ordained on August 23, 1987, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Vestal, New York. I served two churches as sole pastor prior to my training as Intentional Interim: St. John’s Lutheran Church in Penn Yan, New York, the Finger Lakes/Wine and Dairy Country of the state; and, Hope Lutheran Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida, the Sailfish Capital and Treasure Coast area of that state.

Gloria Dei is the 10th congregation I have served as interim pastor since my training in 2008. My strengths in ministry are in preaching and administration. I seek to preach in a manner that makes one think about the Bible text for the day and how it applies to our everyday living. In administration, I seek to enable congregations to develop and pursue mission, ministry and methods for doing ministry in efficient and effective ways. I enjoy working with people and encouraging them to spread the Good News in words as well as in ways.

Parish ministry continues to be challenging as we look at post-COVID continuing adjustments and programs. I am excited by new methods for ministry especially in the line of technology. Reaching people outside of our walls by evolving means is involving more people within the walls to use their gifts to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in new and exciting ways.

Blessings to all who read this page!
