We would like you to reflect on this question: In what ways your library is visibly saying "Libraries are for everyone"?
We firmly believe that the physical space of the library should be welcoming for all, including newcomers and multilingual speakers.
At the Hornell Public Library, we stablished the first permanent multilingual display. This includes a map of the world (where patrons can pin their names in the countries they are from) and our growing collection of multilingual books.
Global Tales is a library-community partnership that strives to develop a sense of belonging among newcomers and migrants in Hornell.
Reflecting on our experience, we believe that it is important that libraries openly communicate that partnerships are welcomed. This might seem obvious, but libraries in the natal countries of newcomers might operate differently as USA ones.
Other important steps towards developing a connection to foster a partnership are honor the volunteer vision, start small, and divide clearly the tasks.
